One of the things Nick and Tony had to sit down and have a talk about, was that because Nick was going to school in Queens but technically lived in Upstate New York, they either needed to figure out a different ride situation or something else. And because Nick really didn't want to wake up really early in the morning to just be on time for class, they opted for the second option. Which was an apartment building that Tony Stark ended up buying in secret, that was in Brooklyn.

He decided it'd be the best place because he was able to control the security and everything, so even if he wasn't living with her (since he still technically had a company to help run) he still felt that she was safe. Especially since Happy was placed as head of security.

So now, Nick was living in Brooklyn in the top floor penthouse of a pretty big building that wasn't necessarily fancy, but it wasn't like the usual crap apartment buildings in New York. And she was living by herself, for the most part.

It was heavily discussed, with many rules being set, and eventually Nick was able to not be too far from the school. The plan was that she'd stay in her Brooklyn apartment from Sunday night to Friday, then she'd spend Friday and the weekend (or whenever she didn't have school) at the compound. But every night she'd have a visitor, so she wasn't just lonely the entire time and eating dinner by herself (since she didn't even know how to make a lot), which is also why the penthouse had a couple extra bedrooms. It was definitely way too big for her, which the girl had mentioned, but then Tony had worked with her and ended up making one of the rooms her own little lab.

Plus, he agreed that she could keep Giddy with her wherever she went - except school, obviously.

Usually Tony would stay with her and have dinner whenever he didn't have something business-y to deal with, which thankfully meant that the two's relationship had gotten better since the beginning of the year. Apparently the whole Ultron thing snapped Tony back to actually being a dad, like he was in Malibu.

Then other times it'd be Natasha or Steve, Wanda often did sleepovers with the girl, and at least once Barton had brought the new baby Nathaniel Pietro Barton and visited her for the day. And when Tony wasn't there, Pepper would often come by.

The penthouse basically took up the entire top two floors of the apartment building, and included the only access to the rooftop, so it was basically her own area. One of Tony's surprises about the place, besides how high tech it actually was, was the fact that the entire rooftop looked like a jungle and Nick absolutely loved it - promising that she'd take care of it.

The thing with the fact that Tony clearly didn't just buy the building and have her move in, he definitely did a couple weeks of construction - making her place extra protected. The only way to get to her floor was by a keycard that the elevator would scan, and when it brought you to the long hallway that was also right next to a wall of windows, it only led to one door - which you could only get through by using a password (which every one of their family had their own access password).
