"It is so good to see you again." My dad says as he lifts me up in the air.
"Dad..."- I luckily can cover up my worried tone by a chuckle. "I am not a baby anymore." What if he feels my 'swollen' belly or even worse; harms it without knowing what he does. Yes, I am paranoid. It is a mom's thing. You will understand it one day.
"You will always be my baby. No matter how old and moody you get." He reaches for my hair but I can dodge it just in time. I have spend at least a good 20 minutes doing my hair, I like to keep it in tact for a little while longer.
"Too slow, old man." I stick my tongue out to him as I move on to my sister.
"Hello little trouble maker." I wrap my arms around her in a hug.
She hugs me back tightly. "I missed you." She whispers so softly that it is almost hard to hear.
The sweet moment, doesn't last for long. As she pulls back and glance at the Chanel package bag that I am holding.
"That is for me, I assume."I roll my eyes and hand her the bag. "Who else."
"Sweet." She claps enthusiastically in her hands and takes the present from me.
"I hope you stop whining about it now." I am not even exaggerating. She was calling twice a day, to ask what I was going to buy for her birthday.
"I will probably find something new soon, don't worry." She says as she begins to unwrap her present.
I shake my head as I continue my round of greetings. "Hi mom." Like always, my mom looks flawless. The woman is always so put together. Especially when my grandparents are around.
"Hi sweety. How are you?." She says as she looks away from Lily to me and quickly scan me over. "You look different." She says after a quick hug.
"Do I?."- fuck. Fuck. Fuck. "How so?."
"I don't know what it is but there is something different about you."
I shrugs my shoulders. "Same old me. You look beautiful by the way. Love your earrings."
"Really? Thank you. Your dad bought these for me a couple of weeks ago." I know how to distract my mother. Works every time.
"They are beautiful."- I give her another compliment so, I know for sure that she shuts up about it. I move on the greet my grandpa and grandmother.
"Hello darling. It is nice to see you again. How is America?." My grandpa says in his business voice. The man doesn't know how he should act differently.
"You too, grandpa."- well sort off. We never really got along to be honest. Not like most grandkids like their grandparents anyway. "America is great. You and grandma should come visit us. Shawn and I have a bought a new house."
"Yes, your mother told us. In Bel Air, I heard."- I slowly nod my head in response. "Business is good then, I assume."
"Yeah, I have been very busy."
"That is what I like to hear." Like I said. The man doesn't know what else to talk about then about doing business.
"Aren't you cold, dear?." My grandma interrupts and stares at my off shoulder sweater. It is her nice way of saying that I should have covered myself more.
"No, actually I am quite warm." I have read that it is a symptom of pregnancy. Being hot all the time. And not in a good way.
"It is not even warm outside."- no grandma. We are in Holland. It is never warm here. "You are not getting sick, are you?."
