"I am sorry to interrupt you but it is time for Abigail to take her medicine." The nurse who let us in earlier announces as she opens the door of Abby's room. I stare at my watch on my wrist. 4.17 pm. Holy cow... we have been here for over 4 hours?
In this sort amount of time, this little girl completely has taken over my heart. She is such a sweet, energetic girl. When the shock of us being there had worn off, she started chatting and basically never stopped. If you close your eyes, you would have never guessed that this girl, who is full of life, is battling against such a horrible illness. My mind can't just wrap around why, out all so many people, she has to go through this. Do not get me wrong, I never ever would wish an illness like that upon someone but her? A young, innocent, sweet soul... life is just not fair.
Her everlasting smile is replaced by a pout as she sees the nurse and the card with meds she is pushing into the room.
"Of course..."- I mumble and stand up. "I am sorry. I forgot the time. I did not meant to hold you guys up for so long." What would these people think of me, of us? God... we totally invaded their space.
"Gosh, Rose... don't be silly."- Alexandra, Abby's mother, is one of the kindest and warm people I have ever met. I cannot imagine what this is like for her and her husband. Seeing your child like this, so sick, and there is nothing you can do about it... I do not have kids but if I think about that there is always a chance that this illness will appear out of the blue for my nieces or nephews... damn, it would kill me and I am only their aunt. I think your parent's heart bleeds if you have to go through that. "You are always welcome. Come over as many times as you want. The same goes for you Shawn."
Shawn squeezes my shoulder as he stand up, to walk to Alexandra. "The pleasure was ours. We want to thank you for writing that email to Rose her manager. Abby is such a wonderful child."
"You like me, Shawnie?." Did I already told you that this little silly girl has totally my boyfriend from right underneath my nose? Well, she did and I am totally fine with it.
It is so adorable to watch Shawn interact with her. My heart cannot take it.
"Like you?."- he says with the brightest smile on his face and walk back to the bed. "I really really like you..."- he smirk at me before leaning closer to Abby and whisper. "Maybe even more than I like Rose but do not tell her I said that, okay?."
Abby giggles loudly. "She can hear you silly."
I but I think that I can speak for Shawn as well, are melting right on the spot. The sound of her laughter make the angels sing.
"I will see you soon, Madam." Shawn says as he grab her little hand in his and press a gently kiss against the back of her hand.
"Bye Shawnie." She says and you immediately see that she is getting quieter. Her bright eyes are slowly filling up with tears.
"Hey..."- I mumble to get her attention and grab her hand in mine. "Don't be sad. Next time when I see you, I will come to visit you again or if you are at home again, you can come to my place and we will cook one of your favorite dishes, right? We talked about that earlier, right?."
She slowly nod her head as she wipes away the tears on her cheek. "But I do not want to miss you. I like you when you are here."
Damn... that hits me right in the heart.
Do not cry, Rose. You are not going to cry in front of her.
"But I will come to see you soon again... you know what..."- I have an idea. I stare at the rose ring on my finger, to Shawn. He slowly nods his head as he already knows what I want to do. I slide the ring of my finger. "Do you want to keep this for me until I see you again?."
