Later that night Chloe and Rachel were hanging out in Rachel's room. "Chloe." Rachel said

"Ya" Chloe responded

"Do you think my dad was lying when he said that stuff, because he's done it before. I want to believe him, I really do but, it's hard to sometimes."

"I believed him, he seemed really genuine."

"Ok," Rachel said and was silent. "Also, he said he would try really hard." Rachel said

"He did say that," Chloe responded.

"It's just, I feel like he said that because he wasn't confident he would be able to do it."

Chloe wasn't sure why Rachel thought this, Chloe had thought James took everything really well, and responded really well to everything Rachel said. "Is there something I don't know Rachel, because from what I saw things looked like they were going really well."

"He's lied to me before, he's a really good liar, sometimes I don't know what's the truth and what's a lie. When he says he will try really hard, it usually doesn't happen."

"I don't usually trust your dad, but this time I think he was telling the truth. I think he feels bad for everything that happened."

"Ok, thank you, Chloe, do you want to stay over?"

"Of course I do, let me text my mom."

Chloe: Can I stay at Rachel's

Joyce: No, it's a school night and David had a great idea, we're going to have a family game night.

Chloe: So that's an, of course, you can stay at Rachel's because I know you really don't want to have family game night with David

Joyce: Chloe you're not staying at Rachel's

Chloe: Fine I'll be there soon

"I can't stay over, my mom says we're all having family game night," Chloe said.

"Ok, will I see you tomorrow?" Rachel asked

"Sure, I'll pick you up from school."

"Ok, I'll see you then."

As Chloe was walking out the door of the Amber house James said: "Chloe,"

"Ya," Chloe responded.

"I was wondering, is Rachel ok?"

"She's fine why."

"Well, I wasn't sure if she believed me when I told her I would try really hard to be a better father."

"Wait, were you lying to her?"

"No," James paused and said, "but I have before."

"Well, I think you should talk to her instead of me? Go talk to Rachel about it."

"Ok thank you, Chloe."

There were 2 reasons Chloe was dreading family game night, the first reason was that she didn't like David, the second reason was she used to love it, when Chloe was 14 they had Family Game night every Monday, with her dad.

When Chloe walked into her house David said: "Surprised you showed up."

"I said I would be here, I'm here," Chloe said annoyed.

"Chloe, I feel like I haven't seen you in forever," Joyce said, hugging Chloe.

"You saw me earlier today."

"Yes but you were hanging out with Rachel, you were busy."

"Oh," Chloe said.

"Anyway, David and I decided we would play the Game of Life," Joyce said. This surprised Chloe, Chloe played that game with her dad almost every day." Chloe looked at her mom to see that she didn't want to play this game either, Chloe decided since her mom wasn't saying anything she would, "Can we play a different game?"

"No, I used to play this with my military friends all the time, were playing this game," David said.

Once they got the game out, Chloe grabbed the blue car, Joyce grabbed the yellow car and David grabbed the green car. William had always used the green car, he would say blue and yellow make green. Once again Chloe looked at her mom, Joyce looked like she wanted to say something but wasn't. "Can you grab a different car?" Chloe said. "Is the colour car I have so important to you that I have to change it."

"Actually it is, so you can sit with me and fight about it or you can grab a different car."

David looked like he was going to say something, but Joyce said: "It's just that William used to use the green car.". David seemed annoyed about this as he grabbed the red car.

Throughout the game it got harder and harder to sit and play, when David got doctor for his career Chloe remembered the time her dad had gotten doctor, she was playing it with her dad and Max, when he picked it up he said, "I don't think I could pull that off." Chloe picked up artist, every time her dad got artist he would say

"It would be so cool to be an artist."

When Chloe got to the marriage part David picked up a boy and gave it to Chloe. Chloe didn't want a boy, but she would rather play the rest of the game with a boy by her side then come out to David. As the game continued everything was reminding Chloe of her dad, when David had one kid, it was the exact same thing William would do, he would name the one kid Chloe every time.

By the time they got to the end of the game, it was Chloe in first followed by Joyce then followed by David. "I'm going upstairs," Chloe said

"You have to help clean up," David said

"Fuck off" Chloe responded, she heard David get mad and her mom say something about her being allowed to be upset.

Once Chloe was in her room the tears came, Chloe laid in her bed and cried. A few minutes later Joyce came in also with tears running down her face. Chloe looked up at Joyce and said "I miss dad, before he left he asked Max if she was staying for dinner, then I said something about how she's never leaving me, and then said that makes all of us. Then he died. Then Max fucking left as well. " Chloe said. Joyce was now sitting on Chloe's bed, "I know"

"I'm sorry, I didn't think we would play that game."

"You said you guys decided."

"I tried to talk him out of it but it seemed really important to him that we played that game."

"What about what's important to me?"

" Chloe, I care about you. I just didn't want to fight with him."

"Then break up with him, you never fought with dad, you were happy with him."

"You're dad and David are 2 different people."

"Ya dad wasn't an asshole, and you know what," Chloe said opening up a drawer and grabbing the picture David gave her of him and his military friend. She wanted to rip it up into a million pieces but she knew she would regret it later, she took it and dropped it in her trash bin. "Chloe, I know you're upset but don't do that," Joyce said, taking the picture out of the trash bin.

"You keep it, I don't want it." Joyce didn't say anything. "Just leave me alone."

"I love you Chloe," Joyce said leaving Chloe's room with David's picture.
