It had been 3 weeks, and Nathan's first vortex club party was tonight. Nathan had convinced Mr.Jefferson that he needed to use the first vortex club party to ease into it. He had convinced Mr.Jefferson to not make him drug anyone, though thinking about that as an achievement meant the bar was pretty low.

The vortex club party started at 7, so Mr.Jefferson brought Nathan to TDR to go over the plan for what felt like the millionth time. "When you get there, you will go and talk to people, you will not go hide in the corner awkwardly because you feel bad about what you are going to do." Mr.Jefferson said. Nathan was usually pretty social, and could talk to anyone, even if he didn't know them he would be able to start up a conversation. Though Nathan didn't think it would come as easy this time, one because Mr.Jefferson was watching him, and two because Mr.Jefferson told Nathan that he would have to practice encouraging people to drink. Nathan had asked Kate and Rachel if they were going, Kate said she wasn't which meant Nathan didn't have to worry about her. Rachel said she wasn't but Nathan had a feeling she was lying, after all, she did overhear Mr.Jefferson talking about the Vortex club before he and Nathan's dad made fun of him. Which meant Rachel was probably going to go to see if she could figure out what Mr.Jefferson was up to. Nathan already knew Victoria was going which meant he had to avoid her and Rachel at all costs, Nathan had figured Mr.Jefferson had a plan that involved Victoria and Rachel, since he had told Nathan to befriend them, but he wanted to keep them away from Mr.Jefferson for as long as possible. "I won't hide in the corner, and I will talk to people."

"And"

"And if it comes up naturally I will encourage them to have a tiny bit to drink."

"Nathan, you said you wanted to use this Vortex Club party to practice, so use it to practice."

"Ok." Nathan said, but Nathan was going to avoid that at all costs. Nathan was hoping that there would be a point where Mr.Jefferson wouldn't be watching him, and he could just say that he did it.

At 6:30 Mr.Jefferson drove Nathan to the Vortex club party, it was happening where it usually happened, inside Blackwell by the pool. Mr.Jefferson and Nathan got there around 6:50 but there were already a lot of people there. After 5 minutes of walking around, and hoping Mr.Jefferson thought Nathan was talking to people he saw Rachel, and Chloe Price. Nathan wasn't sure Chloe was even allowed to be there, but he didn't think she cared. Though it wouldn't really bother Nathan since he was going to be avoiding Rachel at all costs, that was until Rachel walked up to him followed by Chloe.

"Hi Nathan." Rachel said.

"Hi. I thought you weren't coming."

"We changed our minds." Chloe said in that annoyed tone she always used with Nathan. "Look I know why you're here, but you really shouldn't be." Nathan said, and then realized Mr.Jefferson was watching him. "Why, you don't want us to know what you're up to, we know something is happening at the Vortex Club pirates, and we are going to find out what." Chloe said.

Nathan lowered his voice and said: "It's just that these parties can be dangerous, sometimes people at these parties get drugged."

"Then why are you here?" Chloe asked.

"My dad donates money to the school, I have to be here."

"So are you saying your dad cares more about the school, and how he looks then he does about you." Chloe said.

"Chloe!" Rachel said, giving her a warning look.

"At least my dad's alive." Nathan said.

Chloe punched Nathan right in the eye, and she didn't do it lightly either. Nathan knew he deserved that, but he also knew he had hurt her more then she hurt him. To be honest Nathan was jealous of Chloe, she had 2 parents who loved her, which was 2 more than Nathan had.

"I think we have learned enough for today, come on Chloe let's go." Nathan could tell Rachel was mad at him, and for a good reason, but he did get Chloe and Rachel to leave, so that was a win.

Then Mr.Jefferson came up to him, and said: "Nathan when I said talk to people I didn't mean, remind them that their dad is dead."

"I know, I'm sorry." Nathan said not sorry at all.

"Whatever, go talk to more people, and don't remind them of dead family members." Mr.Jefferson said walking away.

Nathan spent the rest of the night talking to people he barely knew, he felt bad every time he talked to a new person. He didn't want to involve them in Mr.Jefferson's plan just because he didn't know them well, but he would feel even worse about talking to people he was close with like Victoria or Rachel. He would feel worse about involving them even more in Mr.Jefferson's plan.

That night when Nathan got home he checked his phone, he had 1 text from Rachel. Rachel: What the Fuck Nathan

Nathan: I know, I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that

Rachel: You're right, you shouldn't have, so why did you? I know you're better than that

Nathan: Mr.Jefferson has plans for the Vortex Club parties, I was trying to get you to leave, I told you guys that you shouldn't have been there, but Chloe didn't seem to care. I didn't know how else to get you to leave. Also she insulted me first.

Rachel: She did, but that doesn't make what you said right, I know what she said was mean, but I could tell it didn't hurt you as much as what you said to her

Rachel: What are Mr.Jefferson's plans?

Nathan: I can't tell you, but tell Chloe I'm sorry and I shouldn't have said that.

Rachel: K

Nathan deleted all the texts just in case Mr.Jefferson ever looked through his phone, and went to sleep.
