The Proposal

A few hours later David came to pick Chloe up from the hospital, it took 15 minutes to convince Chloe to go with him. David had to give her her phone back and promised he would take her back before school the next day. When Chloe opened the door to the car she saw roses, "For me how sweet." Chloe said picking up the flowers. David just laughed and said "No those are for your mother.", Chloe thought that was weird, David never laughed at her jokes. Also, she couldn't remember the last time David had gotten her mother flowers.

Chloe went upstairs to call Rachel after looking at her phone and seeing a million text from Rachel that all say CALL ME. Chloe was assuming something terrible has happened, she dialed her number. "CHLOE!!!" Rachel said sounding excited.

"Yes Rachel," Chloe said no longer nervous something bad had happened.

"I'm being released."

"What, when?"

"Tomorrow around 3:00"

"That's great, I will come right after school, are you allowed to walk?"

"Yes!!! Sorry, I have to go my dad just came in, he says we are going to have a family dinner in the hospital room. Bye"

"Bye."

After about 10 minutes Chloe got bored and decided to go downstairs and unscrew the salt and pepper shakers a little bit so when David put salt on his eggs he would have a surprise. As she was walking past the counter David came in with his roses. Fuck, Chloe though I can't do it when he is watching me. Then she saw him get down on one knee and fucking propose. Please say no mom, please say no mom, please say no mom, Chloe thought. Joyce nodded her head yes, and pulled David and Chloe into a hug. Chloe fought back angry tears, this isn't fair, he can replace my dad Chloe thought. After her mom let her out of the hug Chloe said: "I'm gonna go upstairs.". As she was walking upstairs she saw them kiss.

Chloe called Rachel, she didn't care if she was interrupting a family dinner she needed to tell her how she hates David even more now. "Hi, I told you I was eating dinner with my parents can I call you back?" Chloe thought about saying yes but she needed Rachel right at that moment and didn't care how selfish it was. "No," Chloe said.

"Chloe, are you ok."

"No"

"What's wrong?"

"David fucking proposed." Chloe could hear Rachel telling her parents to leave the room. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry, do you want to come to the hospital and spend the night with me?" Chloe thought about it, and really wanted to but she knew David wouldn't like that and would expect her to be happy. But it wasn't that she cared about, her mom wanted Chloe to be happy for them. "Better not or my stepfuck will give me a long lecture about it"

"Ok do you want to stay on the phone, we could talk about how gross hospital food is." Rachel was truly the best Chloe thought. "Ya". The 2 girls stayed on the phone until Rachel's dad made Rachel hang up and go to bed.

Rachel woke up and went to call Chloe when she realized it was 10:00 and Chloe would be at school. Rachel was so excited she could finally leave the hospital today. Her parents had packed up everything since the doctor recommended she didn't walk unless she had to. Rachel had stood up the night before and it barely hurt which was when the doctors cleared her to leave the next day. Rachel was lying in her bed when she realized she forgot to ask Chloe how David had proposed and made a mental note to ask her.

After what felt like an eternity Chloe walked in, Rachel could feel herself smile like she did every time Chloe walked in this room. "So how was school?"

"You know the usual, my teacher still hates me and it was incredibly boring." Rachel wanted to ask Chloe about how David proposed but she didn't want to hurt her best friend, her girlfriend so she decided to hope Chloe would bring it up, and she did. "Wait I never actually told you how David proposed did I?"

"No, you didn't"

"It was so dumb, and not romantic at all, he just walked into the kitchen with roses, put them on the counter and bent down on one knee."

"What, that's a terrible proposal."

"Ya, I don't think he is the most creative." The two girls laughed.

When it was finally time for Rachel to leave the two girls were so excited, "I hope to never come back here again." Rachel said.

"I hope so too.".

"What do you want to do when we get to my house," said Rachel when the two girls were in the car. Chloe looked at Rachel and winked, Rachel, laughed. "What's so funny Rachel?" Rachel's dad asked.

"Oh, nothing it's just an inside joke." Rachel said with red cheeks.

When Rachel and Chloe got to Rachel's house they went right up to her room. "Privacy" Rachel said "I've missed it" Chloe laughed. Suddenly Rachel's face went serious "Um...Chloe, can I ask you something?" Rachel said, Chloe was worried, this was so unlike Rachel, Rachel was never nervous. "Of course," Chloe said

"Um... I'm not really out to my parents, and you didn't say or do anything wrong but-"

"Was it what I did in the car, Rachel I am so sorry, I didn't think he would even notice."

"It's fine." Rachel said

"No, it's not, I won't do it anymore, I promise.".

As the two girls were in Rachel's room doing homework (demanded by Rachel's mom,), Rachel's mom called them down for dinner. "You think we will have another eventful dinner?" Chloe asked.

"How can we not at this point," said Rachel. For dinner was steak and, for Rachel's father there was more Sherry. Chloe was sure he was keeping them in business. It was a pretty silent meal until Rachel's dad asked: "So Chloe got any boyfriends?" Rachel choked on her water and Chloe tried to cover her laugh with a cough. "Um... no" Chloe responded trying her best not to laugh and just barely succeeding. "You must from the way both you and Rachel responded."

"Nope, I'm single."

"Maybe you two are fighting over a guy." Chloe could no longer hold it in, she burst out laughing. "I will find out who this mysterious guy is."

"You do that" Chloe said.

Then Chloe noticed Rachel was pretty silent thought most of that conversation and she was not laughing like Chloe was. Chloe felt terrible, she had just promised she wouldn't say or do anything like that around her parents and she just did. On the way back up to the room when Chloe knew Rachel's parents were out of hearing, Chloe said: "Rachel I'm really sorry I know it wasn't funny, and I literally just promised you I would never do it again.". They were now sitting on Rachel's bed, and Rachel started crying. "My dad always talks about how gay people suck and everyone should be straight, he said anyone who is gay or lesbian is just confused or want attention." Chloe wrapped her arms around Rachel. "Rachel your dad lives in a bubble, he doesn't understand people who aren't white and straight."

"What am I supposed to do?"

"Rachel your dad loves you if you tell him I'm sure he will understand, and if he doesn't, which won't happen you can stay with me, or we will leave Arcadia bay."

"You're the best Chloe."

"I'm only the best for the best." Chloe wiped Rachel's tears. The 2 girls lay on Rachel's bed for hours. When it was around 9:00 o'clock Chloe texted her mom saying she was going to spend the night at Rachel's since it was Friday. Right before the 2 girls fell asleep Chloe realized how happy she was, how happy Rachel made her.
