This wasn't my original plan, but sometimes life ain't fair. Sometimes it sucks.
I'm sorry.)
Jake's POV:
Tara and I were hanging out in the pool.
She looked at her phone and frowned. "Have you seen Juliet today?"
I shook my head. "No, why?"
"It's almost one. She's usually made some sort of appearance by now."
"Yeah. I'm gonna go see what's going on."
"I'm coming with you."
We got out of the pool and dried off.
As soon as we were dry enough, we headed inside.
"Juliet?" I called. "You alive?"
Tara walked into Colby and Juliet's room and I followed.
Juliet was laying on the bathroom floor, curled up and practically in tears.
"Juliet?" Tara asked softly. "What's wrong?"
"It hurts," she whispered.
"What hurts?"
"My back. And there was some blood."
"Did you hurt yourself somehow?"
She shook her head. "I think... I think I need to go to the hospital. Something's not right. And can one of you call Colby, please?"
"He's probably exploring right now," I told her.
"Just call my freaking husband!" She snapped.
I dialed Colby's number and got his voicemail. "Hey, give me a call back. It's important."
Tara grabbed a mask and gloves for us and I picked Juliet up, since she didn't seem to be in much shape to walk.
We drove to the hospital and I gave Colby another call. "Answer me. Tara and I took Juliet to the hospital."
Juliet was taken back and Tara and I sat in the waiting room.
After a moment, Tara glanced at me. "She's gonna be okay, right?"
"I don't know. I don't know what's going on. I don't know why Colby's not answering his fucking phone. I don't know if she'll be okay."
Tara took my hand and I rested my head on her shoulder.
I called Colby a third time. "Answer your fucking phone."
Several hours later, a doctor came up to us. "Juliet Brock is free to go."
"What happened?" Tara asked immediately.
"Are you family?"
"No, we're friends."
"Then I'm sorry. I can't tell you. Make sure she follows up on the resources I gave her, all right?"
Tara and I exchanged a worried look before we said, "Okay."
We left the waiting room and found Juliet standing by the front counter, looking more depressed than I ever remembered seeing her.
She glanced up. "Can we go, please?"
I nodded. "Yeah, we can go. What happened?"
She swallowed heavily. "I'm... I'm..."
"Hey, you don't have to tell us if it's too hard," Tara told her.
Juliet nodded and asked, "Have you talked to Colby?"
I shook my head. "Uh, no. I've left him three voice messages."
"Call him again."
I dialed Colby's number yet again and this time, he answered.
"What? Dude, we're busy recording a video. Did everything go all right at the hospital?"
Juliet snatched the phone from me. "Why didn't you answer?" She was silent a moment. "I need you here. Please. Just come home to me."
The ride back to the house was silent. Not even music played. Every time music was turned on, Juliet turned it off. Something's really wrong when she doesn't want music playing.
The second we stepped into the house, she fell to the ground and started sobbing.
From behind us, the front door opened and Colby quickly embraced her.
She sobbed into his shirt.
When her tears weren't as extreme, he asked softly, "What happened, Jules?"
Juliet sniffled and replied quietly, "I lost it."
Colby threw his arms around her and they sat like that for awhile.
Tara and I eventually decided to leave them alone and we sat on the couch silently cuddling each other.
"The pain they must be feeling," Tara said.
"I can't imagine," I stated quietly.
