CHAPTER XLV

A FATHERS LOVE FOR HIS DAUGHTER (POEM)

“Not so very long ago

I knew my life was graced

When my lovely baby daughter

Into my arms was placed

I knew right from that moment

A Daddies Girl she'd be

I felt so proud when I took her out

For the entire world to see

As the years went by so fast

My little girl all grown

And like all Dads the day soon comes

When the seed of love is sown

Still deep down within my heart 

She's a Daddies Girl always

To me she's still my baby

And that's the way it stays

I'd like to tell my daughter

Just how much I love her too

And just how special that she is

With a beauty that's so true

 If any time she needs me

I'll be there to see her through

To listen and to love her

As all good father's do

I'd give my life if needed 

To protect my little girl

The love she gives me in return

“Alas dos na?!” gulat ko, nang tignan ko ang wall clock ng kwarto ko. Sa sobrang pag-iisip ko, di ko namalayang madaling araw na pala.

Pakiramdam ko, napakadaming nangyari sa loob lang ng isang araw, actually, ilang oras lang. parang ang bilis bilis ng oras.

Sa bilis, pati mga pangyayari lahat biglaan. Napapailing na lang ako, habang tinutungo ko ang aming kusina.

Nang nasa harap naman na ako ng ref, tinititigan ko lang naman ang mga laman nun, totoo’y nagugutom na ako kakaisip, pero para naman akong walang ganang kumain.

“Hay!” sabi ko, sabay kuha ng karton ng fresh milk. Tinungo ko din ang lalagyan ng mga garapon ng nanay ko, sabay kuha din ng isang garapon ng powdered milk.

Parehas ko iyong nilapag sa lamesa’t kumuha ako ng baso. Nagsalin ako ng fresh milk at ininom. “Whatever will be, will be!” bigla ko na lang nasabi, sabay buntong hininga at lapag ng baso. Nang makita kong wala na iyong laman, nagsalin na naman ako ng gatas doon.
