Blood Is the New Black

Lily had decided to ditch school the following Monday, she had gotten no closer to getting Veronica to defend Garrett and A was tightening the noose around her neck fast

So she decided not to waste any time and went straight to the Hastings House that morning

"Lily?" Veronica looked surprised to see the young girl "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school?"

"Yeah, um, I have a free lesson this morning," She lied "I actually came here to see you,"

"Of course, come in," Veronica stepped to the side and let Lily into the kitchen "What's going on?"

"Um, it's about Garrett Reynolds," Lily said

"Did he say something?" Veronica asked

"No, there really isn't any way to say this but..." She took a deep breath "Garrett didn't kill Alison,"

"The police found DNA evidence that linked him to Alison's dead body," Veronica shook her head

"Because he saw her that night but he didn't kill her,"

"How do you know that?"

"Because I was with Ali, I saw Garrett too that night." Lily said

Veronica paused, looking surprised "Why are you telling me this?"

"Because I think everyone deserves a fair defence, and I can't let an innocent man stay in prison for a crime he didn't commit," She explained

"You want me to defend him?"

"I want you to think about it," Lily said "Garrett's a good man, he was friends with Ian. Ian dragged Garrett into some shady stuff but Garrett never took part in any of it, he knew better than that, he wouldn't hurt anybody, let alone Alison. I trust Garrett with my life and I know for a fact he never hurt Ali,"

"This isn't exactly an easy decision," Veronica said

"I know, but please, just think about it," Lily begged

Veronica studied the younger girl for a moment, she could hear the desperation in her voice and there was not a trace of a lie in her eyes. She couldn't quite believe she was thinking it but she really thought Lily was telling the truth "I'll consider that," 

"Thank you," Lily sighed in relief and left the Hastings house to head to Rosewood Police Station so she could talk to Garrett

"So..." Garrett nodded "Did you talk to Mrs Hastings?"

"I did," Lily said "She said she will consider thinking about taking the case,"

"Okay," he sighed

"I did you a favour, do me one," Lily crossed her arms "You said you knew who dug up Ali's grave. How do I know that the person didn't just do that for you?" 

"I didn't touch your friend Maya, and I didn't kill Alison," He said

"I know," She nodded 

"But guess what, what was snatched from her grave that night would have actually proved it." He scoffed 

"How?" 

"Is Mrs Hastings defending me or not?" He asked

"She's considering it," Lily said "But nobody in this town apart from me believes that you're innocent,"

"Lily," He leaned in closer "Somebody you know well has you completely fooled. People lie, but... Medical records don't." 

"Whose medical records?" She asked "Who are you talking about?" Garrett ignored her questions and turned to the guard who came over to lead him back to his cell
