The Perfect Storm

"Ugh," Lily groaned "It's insane. How many words do they expect you to learn in one night?"

"'Stringent.'" Aria said to Spencer

"Uh, tough. Inflexible." Spencer answered

"It's not like you're actually gonna use them." Hanna said

"'Meretricious.'"

"It's not like you go to college and then you start speaking a different language." Hanna continued

"It's about getting into college" Spencer said "Meretricious. Um... Phony, flashy."

"Mm-hm."

Lily grimaced when Hanna reached for another piece of the disgusting pasta they had ordered "Uh, Han, why are you still eating that?"

"Because it's here." She answered

"Put it in the rubbish." Lily said

"Then I'd have to stand over the garbage and eat it." Hanna shrugged

"'Besotted.'" Aria said

"Infatuated, enamoured, in love with."

"Mm-hm."

"Hey, what did Noel say to you after the memorial?" Hanna asked Aria

"We are taking the SATs in less than 12 hours. Can we focus?" Spencer said

"Okay, Spencer, you do not need to know any more big words. You're already scary enough." Lily grinned

"I'm not scary." Spencer complained "Am I scary?"

"A little." Aria answered

"Hey, I saw Noel Kahn hug you. And he did not wanna let go." Hanna continued

"Talk about not wanting to let something go." Aria shot back

"Why can't you give him a chance?" She asked "He's smart, he's cute... ...his Dad owns, like, half of Rhode Island. And he's got great lips."

"His father?"

"No. Ew." Hanna chuckled

"I mean Noel does have great lips," Lily shrugged

"Ew you've kissed him?" Spencer asked

"Once," she chuckled

"Seriously, Aria." Hanna said "You and Noel would look amazing together."

"Can we drop it? Please?" Aria asked "I'm not looking for anything more than a friend."

"Why? I mean, don't you have enough on Facebook?" Lily teased

"Besides, don't you want someone real?" Hanna asked "Someone you can, I don't know, scratch and sniff?"

"Hanna stop," Lily laughed

"Speaking of real boys," Hanna turned on her "What happened between you and Jason D? I mean don't think we haven't noticed the longing looks,"

"I knew him better than you guys did, I mean I used to go on holiday with their family," Lily lied

"Yeah but you two were basically having eye sex in front of us,"

"Okay Hanna ew," Spencer said

"I am trying to help out our friends here." Hanna shrugged "We don't all have smoking-hot boys from the country club."

"What is going on with you and Alex?" Lily asked "Is he back from that tournament?"

"Yeah. He's back." She smiled
