Thrown from the Ride

Lily had been late to school the next day so when she arrived it was already lunch and lucky for her she found Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer sitting around a table outside

"Hi!" She exclaimed in relief as she sat down next to Hanna "I'm sorry I'm late, I slept in and lost track of time"

"Woah what happened to your hair?" Hanna asked, referring to the mess of it

"Coming from you," Lily grinned, picking up one of the black highlights Hanna had put into her blonde hair "I like it,"

"Thanks," She said bashfully

"Anyway what have I missed?" Lily asked the others

"Nothing, other than the fact that everyone is still busy staring at us," Emily sighed

"And Mona's freaking me out" Aria added

"Why?" 

"Me and Hanna found an old book of Shana's and Mona made some cryptic comments about how Shana wouldn't need it anymore and Ali would if she comes back," She explained

"Since when is Ali coming back to school?" Lily asked

"She's thinking about it," Spencer said "But I don't think her dad will-"

"Is that a hickey?!" Hanna exclaimed, her eyes on Lily and she pushed the brunette's hair back to expose her neck, where sure enough there was a purple bruise

"Shush!" Lily hissed and put her hair back over it

"Oh so it wasn't sleeping in this morning, it was sleeping in someone else's bed," Spencer teased

"Shut up" Lily groaned

"Gabe's of course," Hanna pointed out and the brunette shot her a smug look

But Lily was saved from any more interrogation by all their phones chiming, but hearing that made them all freeze since they knew what that usually meant

Spencer picked hers up and read it for the others "It's Ali," She said "This is intense. She's saying that because there were no obvious signs of struggle, they're gonna have to wait for the coroner's toxicology results to determine her mum's cause of death." 

"The cause of death?" Hanna asked "It was murder. Duh." 

"Maybe the cops think that she was poisoned." Aria suggested

"How do they know that she wasn't buried alive?" Hanna asked and the girls all looked at Spencer nervously 

"We don't have to pretend like she wasn't found in my backyard." She said 

"We know your family had nothing to do with what happened to Ali's mum, Spence." Emily said 

"Of course not. I mean if they killed her, they wouldn't make a bonehead move like burying her in their own flowerbed." Hanna added 

"Hanna, it's not helping." Aria said 

"Yes, it is." She replied

When Lily got home from school that day she had a few missed calls from Alison so she called the girl back "Hey, what's up?"

"Holbrook needs me to go in for a medical exam tomorrow and I can't go alone," She said "I've already asked Hanna but can you please come with me too?"

"Of course," Lily nodded

So the next day Hanna picked Lily and Ali up before driving them to the hospital where Ali had an appointment

"Take a deep breath for me." The doctor told Ali "And another. Good. You have quite powerful lungs, young lady. Now if you'll tilt your head, so I can take a look at the place where you were injured." He reached up to her head and felt through her hair "I want you to come back in again for an X-ray. The scar tissue may have trapped particles from whatever caused the wound."
