To Plea or Not to Plea

Lily yawned when she came down the stairs that morning and she headed to the kitchen with Teddy. First off she put out more food for him which he happily began to eat, and then she stood back up to make herself a bowl of cereal

Then Jason came in, having just got off the phone with someone "Who's that?" Lily asked

"My dad" He said "The DA are offering my sister a plea bargain of only 10-15 years if she admits to killing Mona and names whoever helped her do it"

"What? But Ali didn't kill her!" Lily exclaimed

"I know" He sighed "But the DA won't care. Besides it's either that or life without parole"

"What's Ali going to do?" She asked

"I don't know" He said "Apparently she doesn't feel comfortable naming her accomplice, but her lawyer is nervous and wants her to take it"

"Why doesn't Ali want to name someone?"

"Because the police believe it was Hanna"

After hearing that, Hanna was the first person who Lily looked for at school that day and it appeared Emily had had the same idea

"I can't believe this is happening to me." Hanna whispered 

"Alison's not gonna take the plea." Emily said "She's innocent, and she knows Mona planned this scheme." 

"Well, it's not gonna be easy to prove." Hanna retorted L

"Look, even if she does take the plea, she won't name you as her helper. She wouldn't sink that low." Lily added 

"Well, I want to believe that, but we all know that Ali looks out for herself first. And I'm the easy target!" She exclaimed 

"I'll go to the jail and talk to her." Emily suggested 

"No, I'll go." Hanna said "Maybe if she sees me, it'll make it harder for her to ruin my life." 

"Hanna, you can't go. You'll just be giving Tanner more ammo." Lily said and Aria walked over to them

"Has Jason said anything?" Aria asked her

"Her dad's with her right now, but she's not taking any other visitors." She explained

"Why would she do that?" Emily asked 

"Because she doesn't wanna face us." Hanna answered 

"You guys, Jason said that her lawyer got her so rattled about the trial...she's considering taking the plea." Lily said 

"I'm gonna call Spencer." Emily sighed 

"No, if you tell her about the plea, she'll either bomb her interview, or she'll skip it and come home." Aria said "Do you seriously want to be responsible for her not getting into St. Andrews?"

"No, but she'll kill us if we don't tell her what's going on." She replied 

"I know, but, let's just hold off until we know something more." Lily added 

"Fine." Emily said "But we should go talk to Ezra. If he has any information on Varjak, we need to know." 

"Yeah, but I... I can't right now. I have a history test in a few minutes," Aria said "And if I don't get my grade in, I might lose my spot at Savannah." 

Lily had to head to Biology since she had missed months of school so right now her priority was catching up, meanwhile Hanna was doing the opposite and ditching school amongst all the chaos she had been through so far

And Lily didn't blame her, she couldn't even stop thinking about what Hanna was going through during her day

She waited nervously all evening as well for any indication from Jason about what Ali was doing, and she finally got something when he got off the phone with his father, the look on his face told her it wasn't good

"What?" She asked nervously

"Hanna's been arrested" He said "For being Ali's accomplice in murdering Mona"

"We need to go down there and-"

"Babe" He sighed and caught her arm "My dad told me it wouldn't be a good idea. I suggested it but given that you were recently released they may not believe anything you say, especially since you were in there at the same time as Ali"

"I didn't even see Ali when-"

"I know" He sighed and held her hands "But they might not believe you since you weren't released for being innocent, you were released because that was the fair sentence for what you did. I know you want to help Hanna and I'm sure your friends, her family, and the police will do what they can"

"But if Ali's said Hanna did it then she can't just deny her and get off," Lily said

"Ali didn't take the plea. But Tanner found evidence that the blood found on Mona's clothes was Hanna's" He explained "Even if you could help and show them all the torture A has put you through, it wouldn't make that evidence dismissible"

"God this is insane" Lily whispered and put her head in her hands "A is trying to have us all thrown in jail one by one. A already got three of us, I only got lucky that Gabe helped me,"

"Gabe?" Jason asked

"Officer Holbrook" She explained "Before you came back to town me and him were...close"

"Oh" He said 

"It's not like he saved me or anything, but he just made sure I got a fair sentence" She said "But I know him and he'll do whatever he can legally to help Hanna and Ali."

"I don't know what they're going to do" He sighed 

"Jase" Lily whispered and wrapped her arms around his neck "It'll be okay" He held her tightly and pressed a kiss to the side of her head before she let go and went to make them both coffees

But then her phone chimed

Lily panicked as she realised that all her previous texts, emails, calls, or communication with A from the last two years was gone which meant now she would have no way to show the police anything if she even wanted to

Jason's phone rang again so he excused himself to answer it and when he came back Lily had made them each a coffee and was putting two frozen pizzas in the oven

"What's going on?" Lily asked her boyfriend

"Ali isn't taking the plea" He answered "So they're going to trial and if she doesn't win it'll be life in prison"

"Oh my god" Lily whispered and rushed over to hug him, rubbing his back gently as she could feel him silently crying onto her shoulder in fear for her sister and what would happen to her
