The girls were busy trying to prove that Alison was innocent in killing Mona because as long as Ali didn't kill Mona, Hanna couldn't be charged as an accomplice to murder

"You see, if my head hadn't have been so jet-laggy, I would have remembered it sooner." Spencer was saying. She was now back from London and had called Emily, Aria, and Lily round to her house "The number off of the Varjack receipt is the same number as the personal ads in Ali's house."

"How does this help Hanna?" Emily asked

"Well, if Ali's not guilty, then they can't charge Hanna as an accessory." Lily explained "You can't help someone commit a crime that they didn't commit."

"But Ali already told us that the letter and the passport are fake." Aria said "Why do we think the number and the ads are real?"

"I don't know. But we didn't find the number with the other things." Spencer said

"So what if the numbers are the same What does that mean?" Emily asked "You know, we call it and it just rings, no pick up, no voice mail, nothing."

"Yeah, and meanwhile Neilan's Law Office is closed and locked." Aria added

"But the number appearing twice... It's got to mean something, we just have to figure it out." Spencer said

"What if we don't figure it out in time?" Lily asked

Their conversation was interrupted by Mrs Hastings coming in "The four of you are gonna be late for school."

"Uh, no, Mum, teacher's conference. They dropped the first two periods." Spencer explained "I told you."

"Oh, then, uh, this is my chance to talk to all of you." She said "I want to strongly suggest that you girls stay away from Alison's trial."

"This is a suggestion?" Spencer asked

"For Emily, Lily, and Aria, yes, for you it's more than a suggestion." She replied

"What is Ali gonna think if we're not there?" Emily asked

"I'm more concerned about what other people will think." She said "Juries have eyes."

"The whole town knows that we're friends with her." Lily added

"Yeah, if we don't go, it'll be like saying we think she's guilty." Aria said

"I can't tell you two and Emily what to do, but consider your actions." Mrs Hastings said "I wouldn't blame Lily for going"

"Why not?" Spencer asked

"Because Jason's a prosecution witness" Lily sighed "So I have to be there this time"

"Okay, so what are we gonna do when Hanna goes to trial?" Spencer asked "Are we just supposed to turn our backs on her too?"

"We're not talking about ethics." She said

"That's for sure." Spencer scoffed and the other three looked at each other uncomfortably

"Maybe we should go." Emily suggested and the three non Hastings girls left the house.

They each got into their cars and drove to the Brew where they were meeting Caleb, Spencer right behind them

"Everything I've tried to trace this number back to a source just disappears into a black hole of nothingness." Caleb explained "No tagged ID, no localising signature, the phone on the other end could be on Mars or on the other side of this room."

"An insanely secure phone and somebody uses it to order pizza?" Spencer asked

"Maybe they don't know what they have." Emily suggested
