Chapter Twenty Six

Nicole walks with Letty to the car she had spotted earlier. Just like she suspected, the vintage one was her mothers. Nothing about her ways seemed to change. Only her memory.

"Can I drive?" Nicole asks.

"Not a chance." Letty spun the keys on her finger. "Now lets go."

"Well that was worth a shot." Nicole mumbles, getting inside.

If her father wasn't there to teach her, then maybe her mother would be the one to finally show her how to drive. Like Shaw said, she had to learn sooner or later.

Nicole buckles up but double takes when she hears the sound of a motorcycle engine.

In a blink; Xander flew by the front of the car and out of the warehouse.

"Wha-" Nicole looks to Letty. "Was that?"

"Yeah," Letty chuckles, starting up the car. "I'm surprised it took him this long to leave. He usually heads out earlier than this."

"Where is he going?"

"Knowing him, to the races." Letty pulls the car off. "It is usually me and him but I'm staying in tonight."

Nicole brows pull. "How come?"

"Don't really feel like it." Letty sits back. "Head hurts to much anyway. I need energy to deal with people."

"Second that." Nicole scoffs.

Letty smiles. "Not a people person huh?"

"Eh," Nicole shrugs. "Depends on their attitude."

With a slight laugh, Letty nods her head. "I can agree with you on that, kid."

Nicole takes in the night of the London streets.

"I seriously can not believe I am out here." She breathes out.

"Guessing you never been anywhere besides Mexico?" Letty asks.

"I'm from L.A." Letty eyes flicker confused but Nicole beats her questions to the punch. "Shaw found me in Mexico."

"How'd you get there?"

Nicole wanted to lie but really saw no point in doing so.

"I got kidnapped by the leader of a drug cartel." Letty hits the brakes a little harder than normal, jerking them forward. Nicole braced her hands on the dash. "Okay. Seat belts are a blessing. That was almost my face!"

Letty head snaps to her. "You were kidnapped by a what? Where were any of your family?"

Nicole eyes trail down. "I don't know. It's not their fault I'm with Shaw, the guy who took me gave me a decision to make."

"Which was?"

"Either wait for my dad, or leave with Shaw in hopes that I would find my mother. So I did."

Letty eyes soften. "That's a big decision for someone so young."

"It is, but I know it's worth it."

"What about your dad?"

Nicole smile trembles on her lips. "I'll see him again one day. He doesn't know that she is still out there, so hopefully the day I do see him, he will be able to see my mom again to."

"You both will deserve it." Letty looks back to the card. "....I hope she knows that she raised a good kid." Nicole giggles. "Reckless as hell but still good."

"I'll take that." Nicole nods.

The two of them continue to talk during the ride.

Nicole eyes wander over to Letty; she didn't remember her but yet they could have simple conversations. None of their talks or conversations during the whole car ride were forced. They simply just flowed as if they were long lost best friends finding each other again. Nicole had to admit that there was now some truth to the words of your mother being your best friend before anyone.
