Chapter Eight- New Nicole & Uncle Leon
Letty had the hood open to the, blak Plymouth Road Runner that she had fixed up. A customer had brought it as a gift to her for fixing their old family car. She at first refused it, but with constant persisting from them and Ernest, she decided to go on and keep it and use the first car as a back up.
The car needed a couple of new things, but it was still in great condition, and the small things wasn't anything she couldn't fix.
It had been three years since they seen Dom, he would write to them occasionally to let them know how he was doing but there was never any return address. All though it had been a long time since he had been gone, they were making it pretty fine.
The only thing Letty started to notice over time, was how different Nicole's attitude became over the years.
Letty had a feeling most was age since Nicole was now eleven, but the other had a lot to do with Dom leaving them. Her attitude was more bitter and snappy, mostly to people that tried to be her friend. Letty had a feeling that was a little of her own attitude showing through to so she couldn't fully blame that all on her daughter. How Nicole was becoming, reminded her a lot of herself when she started getting older.
Letty's phone rang on the stool, she stops working and picks it up. "Hello?"
"Ms. Ortiz?" A woman's voice came on the other end.
Letty face scrunches up confused. "Speaking. Who is this?"
"The teacher at your daughters school. We are calling about Nicole Toretto, it seems she has gotten into another little fight here at school." She says.
Letty closes her eyes with a deep exhale. "Nicole." She sighs out. Letty runs a hand through her hair; which was now more curly and longer than before and she had some bangs now. "Well is she alright? She isn't hurt is she?"
"No, she is fine. The other child on the other hand, is not." The teacher says with a sigh, Letty slaps her forehead. "We do need you to pick her up."
"I'll be right there." Letty grumbles, she hangs up the phone and slams down the hood with a mumble. "That little chick and her damn temper. A week is all I ask for damnit." She walks around the car to leave.
"Leaving already Letty?" Ernest asks looking up from his own work.
The old guy had been a big help; him and his wife, they treated Nicole and Letty just like family. It took awhile for the trust to grow but the two of them were like a second pair of parents for Letty and grandparents for Nicole, as that is what they treated them like.
"I have to go get Nicole, she got into a fight...again." Letty shakes her head, and pulls her tank top down over jeans more. "She makes me wish having a boy happened at times." Ernest snickers, Letty looks at him. "What?"
"That little girl is a wildfire to be eleven." He shook his head.
"Please don't remind me." Letty scoffs. "I would ask how she got that way, but that is not a hard one to figure out." She grabs her jacket up off the cart. "I will see you tomorrow, Ernest."
Letty gets in her car, and quickly backs out of the garage and speeds off down the street towards her daughters school. The attitude of Nicole wasn't the only thing that became a problem, the little girl had a temper on her that at first glance you wouldn't think she had. Nicole was growing but she was pretty slim like her mother and not so much that tall yet, she had grown a lot in height but not the height for her age.
After a while; Letty pulls up to the little school. She makes her way inside and into the office of the building.
Once there, she saw Nicole sitting in a slouch in the chair with an annoyed expression written across her face, as her elbow was propped on the chair and her chin rested in her palm.
