Chapter Eighty One

Driving for hours...

Eric occasionally looked over to Nicole to check on her. He thought she would fall asleep but she never once did.

Smoke from the fire still lingering on her as she had some scuffs from the smoke still on her cheek. What scared him the most is the lost look she had in her eyes.

No fear, no anger, just a numb pain showing from the inside out.

He only made small stops for gas. After Nicole texted a number she immediately disposed of her phone like Xander told her to do. He would call Eric's phone from a new number when they made it safely to wherever he was taking the girls.

Nicole never questioned it and nothing in her wanted to.

The entire night kept replaying like a nightmare. At times she tried to blink as if she would wake up and be laying right next to Tyler, or hear his voice.

If she hadn't told him to stay....he'd still be alive.

"You warm enough?" Eric asks in between glances. Nicole only nods but never once lifted her head. "Nicole-"

"Don't." Nicole stops him.

With an understanding nod, he kept quiet on the drive.

Eric pulls in to the familiar roads.

Lifting her head slightly, she took in the sights. Ones she recognized when she was that little seven year old girl, fleeing with her parents. Now here she was again, having to flee because of a target being on their heads.

Xander had explained what he could and what he knew, about Jakob being the one hunting them and about Cipher who they believed to be their mother. Nicole wish she could have reacted more but everything in her felt numb to news. Apart of her wanted to shout at them for hiding things from her but she didn't have the voice or the emotions to do any of it.

Eric pulled up to a spot.

"This is it." Eric parks the car. "The location from the call you made."

Nicole sees the door open, and gets out of the car.

The familiar figure she had known since she could remember.

"You know when I get an emergency call from you, I expect it to be you coming for a normal visit." Leon steps off the porch. "Not like this,"

Nicole lips trembled to hold back her cries as she walked right into a waiting hug.

"Baby girl Toretto all grown up," Leon pats her back. "I missed you, kid. Or should I call you a woman?"

"Kid works fine." Nicole tells him. Leon chuckles hugging her tight. "I missed you too,"

Leon pulls back from her, wiping the dirt from her face.

"I got my girl to pack you up some things you might need." Leon hands her a duffel bag off the porch and a set of keys. "The place is a little further up and it isn't the best but it's good to stay for a few days. Nobody knows about it. It's just our spot to fix up later in the summer."

Nicole holds the bag. "Thank you, tell your wife thank you too."

"Do I even want to know?"

Nicole shakes her head. "I could even tell you everything if I tried."

"I understand." He nods. "Just leave the key when you're heading out but don't forget to tell me goodbye before you do." Nicole couldn't smile no matter how much she wanted to but that didn't stop her from hugging him again. Leon scoffs a slight smile. "You and your dad, always know how to stay in trouble."
