Chapter Thirty One
Driving for what felt like hours. Nicole didn't remember when she fell asleep during the drive but she didn't open her eyes again until she felt Deckard shaking her shoulders gently to get her up, when she swatted his hands away he shook her harder to her annoyance.
"What are you trying to do shake them out of socket?"
"Stop being a girl," he mumbles. "we're here."
"S-Stop being a," Nicole double takes. "What does that even mean?"
Getting out the car, she closes it shut and takes a look around her. It was a quiet open area with a big house centered in the midst of it. Among the open grass, it led back to the trees that ventured off into God knows where.
The four floored home held a balcony on the side and wide porch.
It was an actual home. Something she hadn't seen in a long time.
"Who lives here?" Nicole looks to Deckard who passed her with her bags.
"I do," he heads inside. "come on. It's late."
Nicole looked back down the dirt path that led back into the trees. "Do other people live out here?"
"Next house is ten minutes," Deckard opens the door for her.
Nicole walked inside the house and to say Deckard had some taste was an understatement. He actually had this place look like a home.
Taking her bag upstairs for her, Nicole got herself comfortable in one of the many spare rooms. Not decorated up but pretty simple. It had its own bathroom which saved her the trouble of having to leave her room.
Checking out the room, it had a king size bed with a velvet black headboard. The walls painted in a calm gray to sit the rooms mood.
Nicole walked over to the bay window area and had a seat on the red cushions. The last time she had her own room, she was living with Mia back in her real home, her only home.
Deckard sits the last of her bags down.
"Now it's time to go over some rules."
"Who's house is this?" Nicole keeps her look out the window.
"It was given to me by my mother, a gift." Deckard says. "It used to be our family vacation home." He sits on the beds edge. "Now the rules,"
"Don't leave, and don't cause trouble. I got it."
Deckard eyes her. "You leaving will only hurt yourself so that doesn't concern me," Nicole eyes narrow from the window. "My real rule is to not touch any of the snacks and food in my third pantry. Everything else in the kitchen, I don't care" Her brow raised. "I don't like driving hours for a bloody market. Rule two, don't bother me when I'm working or reading. That is all I care about, this house is yours for now while your here. I don't care what you do. Just don't be troublesome, like you said. Got it?"
Nicole stares at him but agrees. "Yes,"
"Good," Deckard gets up. "My room is down at the end of the hall if you need me,"
Nicole watches him leave, laying down on the cushions she gets comfortable in the bay window.
Did she trade on hell for another? Or was this the break she really did need.....
Next morning,
Nicole trudged up the hill.
Her hair up in a messy bun, a couple of strands sticking to her sweaty forehead. She wore a pair of leggings and cropped t-shirt.
