Chapter 142

"You sure you got everything?" Buddy asks coming out of the garage.

"Yeah," Jakob nods. "Think I might be going back over seas for a little bit. A few jobs to handle there."

"Not going to stop by and see your family?"

Jakob scoffs under his breath, smiling it off as he zips up his duffle.

"I doubt that I'm a person they are interested in seeing randomly."

"Been a long time Jake, months even. I already heard your little great nephew is turning five next week."

Jakob brows pull as he turns back. "How do you know?"

"Nicole mentioned it when she called asking about you." Buddy tells him. "She calls every month, at least three times to ask about you."

"I am giving her and Dom space."

"Space is nice for a month or two. We are in a new year." Buddy says. "She just wants to talk to you. Even Dom calls about you and you know Mia does. They accepted you back."

"I never said I wanted to be accepted back." Jakob takes his duffle outside. "All was forgiven between us but things work better like this."

"Being split up?" Buddy brows pull. "Never knowing your niece."

"I know her, helped raised her for a little while, Buddy."

A sigh from the older man. "Baby Nicole, and now mother Nicole are two different people Jake. What about little Brian?"

"I created a lot of hell for that kid. I doubt he wants to see me. Not even sure he knows who I am."

"He does."

Jakob threw the duffle in the back of the car.

"That's your argument Buddy."

"Jakob, when are you and Dom really going to let this go." Buddy walks over to him. "Saying you forgive and truly forgiving are two different things. Whatever unresolved talk you two have yet to have is between you. But don't let the sins of a father harm the child." Jakob looks back at him. "Nicole didn't keep you away then, and she isn't now. Neither is Dom now. This time it's all on you."

"I know that."

"Could have fooled me." Buddy walks back to the garage.
