Bonus Chapter

Nicole had picked up a few things at the late mart. Deckard told her to make the one stop count before she made the trip to where his hideout house was. He wouldn't be able to pick her up since he was finishing up a job, but he trusted her enough to give Nicole directions and where the spare key would be. Just in case she beat him there.

Owen hadn't said much to her when she told him she was leaving to go back to see Deckard. It had been some months since she had seen him, and since only small jobs were being done, Owen didn't mind.

Another break she needed away from the stressing life that came with working under Owen. Those thoughts weren't always gone but because of Deckard she knew how to manage them better.

Putting the stuff on the counter, Nicole reached inside of her bag and noticed her wallet missing.

"Please tell me I didn't leave it in the car." Nicole grumbles. "Crap," she looks back to the clerk. "I'm sorry. I have to go back to the car."

"I have her." A guy from behind moves and comes to the counter.

Nicole takes a good look at him. A pull of her brows as she looked him over. He had a similar strong physique that resembled one of her father. A chain hidden by his leather jacket. His brown hair cut short.

"Oh you don't have to do that, I can just go back."

"Nonsense, don't worry about it." He paid for both. "You can keep the change, thanks."

He pushed Nicole's things to her.

"Thank you," Nicole smiles.

The man did a slight double take when she did that. A confused stare that didn't go unnoticed by Nicole.

"Do I know you?" He finally asks her.

Nicole's brows go up. "Do you?"

"I'm sorry," he apologized. "it's just when you did that smile. You reminded me of someone."

Nicole gives an unmoving stare. "Sir, I'm fourteen."

A roll of his eyes. "I picked up on that. You don't even look old enough to by cough syrup."

"Well that was just uncalled for." Nicole hand goes to her hip.

"You reminded me of someone that close to me." He nods, his eyes struggling to make out Nicole's appearance. "Family close."

"Sister?"

"No," He shakes his head slow, a slight gaze down. "It's weird to say but when you smiled, you reminded of, of my mother."

Nicole couldn't help but smile again from his words. Not even a long glance to him and she could tell just sharing that alone had been a lot for him. Her father always told her how a pair of eyes could tell so much, and not once did he lie to her. It's why he always taught her to look people in the eye for the truth, because it would always show.
