Chapter Fifty-Six
Nicole looks at the computer with a sigh.
"Hope I'm not ruining your vacation."
Dr. Reese shrugs. "Not really a vacation when you got a toddler running around screaming death every five seconds. However, I am still on call. And clearly you called me for something."
"I did but.... Maybe it's just nerves."
A tilt of her head. "You sure?"
"I don't know," Nicole sat back in the chair at her desk. "I literally graduated two days ago and had the most peace I ever had. Everything I wanted. My friends, my family, all right there..."
"Sensing a but...."
"Why wasn't that enough for me?" Nicole looks at the screen. "I have what I want."
"Do you?"
"Don't do this game with me." Nicole massages her temple.
"Not a game. A simple question."
"Of course I do."
"Wrong answer," Dr. Reese says. "If you had everything you wouldn't be questioning it."
"But maybe it is my nerves."
"Maybe, maybe not."
Nicole scoffs. "I don't know what else it could be then."
"I think you know." Dr. Reese nods. "You know it's okay," Nicole brows pull. "It's okay to miss the fast pace of the life you had before coming back to this. It was apart of you at one point and it still is actually."
