This rant goes hand in hand with the last rant that I posted. This honestly isn't even a rant, it's just sharing my thoughts on something.
When I was in Grade 7, I decided on three 'principles' of sorts. Three criteria that my future job had to fulfill. I don't know how I came up with them, or how I thought of them, but they came to mind and I have been thinking about them ever since. I thought I would share them with you.
1. I need to work with people
I learned a long time ago that I need to work with people. Yes, sometimes I joke around and say I hate everyone or I have no friends, but I have known ever since I was little that I needed a job that involves talking with and working with people.
This was confirmed last year when I took an online science course. I took every other class normally, and then second period I would go to the school library, log onto my course thing and do my work by myself. I got really, really, lonely. I sort of went through a period of time where I was really sad and started isolating myself even more from people, which just made things worse. I begged my mom to home school me, and when she asked me why I didn't even have a good reason. I don't know if this was caused entirely by the fact I was alone second period, or if it was just a phase I went through. But I do know that I was always SOOO hyper by the time third period rolled around and I would always talk the_purple_boss 's ear off.
A boring desk job is not the job for me. I need to move around and communicate with people to be happy.
2. I want to make people happy
It's always a great feeling to see a smile on someone's face. When someone is having a bad day and I am able to make them smile or laugh it makes me happy as well. I want to be able to accomplish this everyday in my future career.
I want to be able to do something that puts a smile on people's faces and makes a positive impact in their life. I want them to leave my office/house/building/hole in the ground whatever it is that I work feeling happy. I don't want to be somebody that everyone hates.
3. I want to make people's lives easier
I always want to improve people's lives. This kind of goes with the last one, but I want to do something that makes things easier for people and makes them feel happy, you know?
I think these principles can be applied to tons of things in life, not just careers. But it is definitely helping me in trying to choose a career. Every time I think of a new job option or whatever, I think about whether or not it will comply with these principles.
My advice would be to develop your own personal principles for yourself that you can apply to your own life. They give you something to fall back to whenever you feel like you have nothing figured out for your future. Even if you don't have anything specific planned, at least you have a very general idea of what you want to do.
