Alright so some of you may be familiar with the youtuber Zoella. She's an extremely popular UK youtuber with millions of subscribers. Personally, I've never really watched her videos but I know my sister watched her a bit. I didn't know much about her or anything until very recently.

So she came out with this book, right? And it's called Girl Online. You've probably heard about it. So she's all excited about it and she's all like 'I wrote a book!' in that cute little accent of hers and all her loyal subscribers are rushing out to buy the book and everything's going great!

And then... things weren't so great.

I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but basically everyone found out that Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella on youtube) didn't actually write the book, but used ghostwriters. (For those of you who aren't familiar with what a ghostwriter is, they are people who write books or other texts that are credited to another person. Yes I stole that definition off Wikipedia.) Now, this might not seem like such a big deal to some people, like oh she got some help writing her book, so what? But a lot of people felt betrayed by this.

I mean, the girl was saying this was her book! And now here's where honesty comes into play. If she had told everybody from the very beginning that this was her plot and characters but she got help writing the story, the hate she received would probably be miniscule compared to what she is dealing with now. Unfortunately there are always going to be people complaining no matter what the situation. But instead of being open and honest with everybody, she kept it sort of hidden. She just dug a deeper hole for herself.

Then when people found out, it was a case of lying and betrayal instead of whether or not using ghostwriters is a fair idea.

So she's receiving dumps of hate and trash all over social media. I guess she threatened to quit social media and youtube and I don't even know what (I don't follow her on any social media but this is what I've heard.) Apparently she was crying and saying that everybody was so mean. And yes, I know she suffers from anxiety and other mental health issues but I still just want to say to her:

YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELF.

Don't go all boohoo-ing and expect us to fall for that crap. What did you expect? You lied to people. And even if you didn't outright lie, you acted dishonestly. And if you expect people to support you when you basically betrayed them and tricked them into giving you more money, then you are delusional.

I didn't want to read the book because I didn't want to support/get involved in this whole mess. But I was actually given the book as a gift from a relative so I decided I might as well give it a shot.

Can I just say: it was written at the reading level of a 7 year old. The language used in the book is so childish and boring. It wasn't very interesting. It didn't keep me hanging on the edge of my seat. I really just wanted it to be over because I didn't want to quit halfway through. Maybe this is because I really hate cheesy romances, but even the part before her love interest came into play I was bored. Overall, I really wouldn't recommend it. And that is me taking an impartial stance. Even if there wasn't any drama over ghostwriters and stuff, I still wouldn't recommend it because I truly didn't enjoy it. So that's my view on it! (Not that you asked but... whatever!)
