High School???

Hey Losers! Now you might be surprised with the title of this rant because I believe I have mentioned loving high school in the past. And if I haven't, then I should have, because I really do love high school.

But of course, every apple has it's bruise (?) (Is that a saying or did I just make that up right now? Probably the latter)

Oh no wait! I know what I meant. Every rose has it's thorn. Yeah that's a Miley Cyrus song. It's a good song.

Basically, every good thing has a bad part to it. And high school is no exception! So here is a compilation of all the things I hate about high school!

1. People

One of the huge culture shocks that I remember experiencing making the transition from elementary school to high school was the fact that I was going from a school of around 300 people to a school of just over a thousand. There's people.. everywhere! In the cafeteria, in the halls, in classes... Everywhere I go I am bumping into people. And it's really irritating.

It also makes it harder to do things. At my elementary school there would be.. maybe 25 people trying out for the basketball team. Go to any high school tryouts and there are at least twice that, if not even more, people trying out for those sorts of things. There's just a lot more competition in general.

2. Tougher classes

What I like about high school... Wait! Better idea. I will do a love on high school after this to compare the things I don't like to the things I do like! Yes! That is a good idea. {Can you tell I don't edit these rants at all :')} Stay tuned for that love!

Anyways, yes, classes are tougher. You get a looooot more homework and it can be a bit of an overload. Classes are also longer too (75 minutes compared to elementary's 40) and most teachers expect a lot more. It can be really difficult juggling projects and tests from four different classes with four different teachers, My two toughest classes are math and french, where I can expect at least one test or quiz each week per subject. (i had math last semester, I have french currently).

3. Cliques

While my school isn't toooooo bad for this, high school can tend to be a bit clique-y. By that I mean that certain people gravitate towards one another and form a group of sorts, and then exclude others. It can be weird having different groups of friends because not everybody will get along. And there's always those people who think they are better than everybody else.

4. You miss one day, you miss a ton

This kind of goes with tougher classes, but I found I could miss a day in elementary school and be able to catch up fine. But that is not true in high school. I missed one math lesson because of a play performance and almost failed the trigonometry unit because my teacher refused to explain it to me and I was confused. Also, my science teacher flat out told the class that we couldn't miss a single day of the last 3 weeks before Christmas break because she decided to do the physics unit in eighteen days.

5. literacy test

Tomorrow I have to take the literacy test, which is the government mandated test to see if I can read and write. I know, stupid right? And every Grade 10 student under our government is required to take the test. To pass it, you need a 75. 300/400. You fail the test, you can't graduate high school. You have to take it again in grade 11 and pray that you pass. I don't know it just seems so stupid to me because can't you just look at my English mark in grade 9 and determine if I'm literate? If I'm able to pass an English course I'm pretty sure I can read and write. I don't need some stupid test to tell me that.

Maybe I should just hand in this rant book for them to mark :")

6. No more recess/snack time

Does this need a reason? I think not. Just let it be known that your girl loves her snacks... And playing basketball. Against the boys. And losing, but giving it her all anyways.

I think that's enough talk in the third person.

Anyways, that's just a few of the things I strongly dislike about high school. For any of you reading this who aren't in high school yet, don't worry... It really is a great place and I love it. I wouldn't go back to elementary. But these are just a few things that tick me off about high school.
