When Emma went to sleep that night after the whole conversation went down, she awoke in a garden full of flowers, but the only thing she could focus on was the figure standing a few feet away from her.
"Michael?" She asked, still confused on where she was, because Michael was dead and he wasn't coming back. So if he wasn't coming back, why was he right here? "Hi mum." He smiled, and she rushed to give him one of the tightest hugs she could possibly give him. Having him back in her arms felt right, and she didn't ever want to let him go.
"Where are we?" Emma asked, gesturing the garden. "It's a dream. Everyone goes here at one point. I'm only here until you wake up." He explained. "How did I get here then? I never come here in dreams." She continued to ask questions. "Mum, stop asking questions. You only get to see me for a few hours and then once you wake up, I don't come back again. This is your final goodbye." He told her in an unreadable tone with sadness and anger laced in it, and she nodded.
"Then why did you come here now? Why did you choose now?" She asked one last question. "You needed me. I'm allowed to come visit you in a dream if you really needed me and then I say goodbye forever. And you needed me now, so here I am." He explained. "You have to move on." He added, making her scoff.
"I don't have to! You're my baby, how am I supposed to move on?" She objected. "Do something you love. Go back to acting, or keep being an activist." He advised. "I love being your mother, why can't I do that?" She asked. "Cause I'm dead. Wether you like it or not I'm not coming back. I wish I could, but I'm not. I don't want to see you so sad anymore." He shared.
"I know, but I am sad. Nothing you say can take away the pain. Because when I wake up and go into your room every morning to wake you for school, you aren't there. Every time I look over my shoulder expecting to see you, you aren't there. You're not here anymore and I just feel so empty without you, like a piece of my heart has been ripped out." Emma explained. "I know you do, I can see you both. You keep saying I'm not there anymore but I really am still there, just not physically. I don't want you to spend the rest of your life crying over me. That's not going to do anything. I know you have to grieve and stuff, but I really do want you to move on. And maybe get dad to star in a Spider-Man movie, but you don't have to do that. It's just a suggestion." He told her, and this time she started to get it.
"When did you become so wise?" She chuckled and gave him another hug. The two of them just walked around and shared memories about when he was a kid. "Remember when I took you to the aquarium and you wanted to keep a whale in your bathtub?" She asked, and Michael nodded before laughing. "You did get me a whale and it did fit in my bathtub so I don't see the why you said no in the first place!" He added, the both of them laughing.
"So, who are you going to next?" Emma brought up. "Dad, then Florence, then Sadie. They're all grieving too." He told her, before thinking and speaking again. "You need to talk to him. Dad feels guilty, I think he's trying to stay strong for you, but he feels like it's his fault I'm dead. You need to focus on him too, and like grieve together." He added. "I will. Once I wake up. What's it like being up here? What do you do all day?" She questioned.
"Not much. I mostly just watch to see how you all are doing. But there's also a bowling alley, so I do have some fun." He shared, making Emma chuckle. "We're probably all really boring." She agreed.
"I love you mum." He spoke suddenly, knowing she had to leave soon. "I love you too Michael. I always will." She told him before pressing a kiss on his cheek and his forehead. "Your going to wake up right about now. Remember what I told you about moving on and grieving." He instructed. "Yep. Goodbye Michael, I love you so much and I'm so proud of you." She whispered. "Bye mum, I love you too. Thank you for being the best mother I could ever have."
The two shared another very tight hug, and Emma vanished from the garden. When she woke up, she noticed she was back in her bedroom. She peeked in Michael's room to see it empty and exactly the way he left it and smiled at the dream that she would always remember, before closing the door and going straight to (Y/n) and wrapping him in a very tight hug.
"Not that I didn't enjoy the hug, but what was that for?" He asked. "I know you feel guilty. It wasn't your fault, don't ever think it's your fault about what happened. I love you." She mumbled into him, and he nodded. "Thanks. Love you too Em." He mumbled.
Together they would try their best to move on, because that's what Michael wanted. He wanted his parents to be happy, and yes they would be happy with him, but he can't just come back from the dead. Michael wanted everyone to be happy, and they were going to try to move on from his death, because that's just what he wanted.
