(Y/n) was a part of the camera crew for a lot of big movies, and currently he was working on the set of the new Batman movie. He had gotten to the set at 5am, and he had left to go home at 3am the next day.

When he got home, he immediately went straight to bed. He walked into the bedroom to see his fiancé Emma asleep. When he got into his pajamas and brushed his teeth, Emma was waiting for him in bed, now awake.

"You're just getting back now?" Emma asked, worried for him. "Mhm." (Y/n) mumbled, sliding in bed at pulling the covers over him. "You can't work like that. You barely have time to sleep! Do you even have time to eat on set?" She told him, asking a question in return.

(Y/n) wasn't really up to having a conversation, but he managed to stay awake for a few more minutes to talk to Emma. "No." He answered, shoving his face into his pillow in hopes she would get the message to let him sleep.

"You can't keep working like that! You are going to kill yourself if you continue that job. You need sleep and you need to eat. They're not treating you very well." She scolded. "You can scold me in the morning Em, just let me sleep. I'm tired and I have to be on set by 5am." He exclaimed, and Emma shut her mouth.

She let him sleep, but she was not going to wake him up so he could make it to set when he was supposed to. He needed his sleep, and if it meant coming late to work, Emma didn't think it would be that bad.

The next time (Y/n) opened his eyes, he looked at the clock and saw it was 8AM. He was supposed to be on set three hours ago. "Crap! I'm late! They're going to fire me!" He shouted, scrambling out of bed and putting on the nearest pair of clothes.

Emma woke up to the noise and saw him scrambling to get ready. "Why didn't you wake me up?!" (Y/n) asked her. "Because you needed more than an hour of sleep! And quite frankly you still need more!" Emma exclaimed, and (Y/n) rolled his eyes.

"Well now I'm going to get fired." He shared. "Why didn't you tell me that before?" She asked. "Because it never really mattered since I was always on time. I really have to go, bye Em. Love you." He mumbled and left the house, rushing to set and hoping his career didn't suffer.

"(L/n)! Where have you been?!" His boss shouted, seeing him walk into set. "My fiancé, she woke me up late. It won't happen again, I promise." (Y/n) apologized, looking down from his bosses glare. "You're right, it won't happen again. Because your fired! Get off my set." His boss told him, and he nodded.

While (Y/n) was gone, Emma was drafting up a tweet about IATSE members and how they are treated cruelly. Her drafting was interrupted when her fiancé came back home surprisingly early.

"You're home early." Emma commented, getting up and giving him a hug before pressing a quick kiss to his lips. "Yep, they fired me." He told her, giving her a sad smile.

That only inspired her tweet more, and once she was finished she posted it without hesitation.

"Growing up as a child in the film industry, crew members weren't just the people I worked with - they filled in for family. The were ones I saw first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Without these kind, hardworking, talented people - I would not have a career and I would not have made it through. There were many making films, I saw extras, and crew members treated in ways that made me scared for their safety and well being. Weather that was worrying they would get home safely at 5 in the morning after a 16+ hour work day, or being asked to work without lunch breaks or rest... I was even aware of AD's being told they would be fired if they were caught sitting down. Often the sleep schedule I would be asked to do on a film would render me a complete mess when shooting was finished and I know I didn't get close to the worst of it. I honestly don't know how the crews do it."

"Thank you to every single crew member in pre, production, and post that I've worked with over the past 22 years... thank you for unbelievable dedication, patience and empathy. The very least you deserve is a safe workplace, living wages, and working hours that safeguard your physical and mental health. The films that bring comfort and happiness to so many people would not exist without you. You deserve to see your families too. Thank you to ia_stories, BritCrewStories and others for highlighting the huge difference in how actors like myself experience life on set, and the working conditions that are imposed of the gaffers, the HMU artists, the set dressers, PA's, so so many others whose skills are absolutely vital to any production."

"This disparity cannot be ignored any longer and the data is stark. Recent research in the UK by filmtvcharity shows that 9 in 10 people working behind the scenes in film and tv had experienced a mental health problem, with evidence showing working conditions, industry culture, and lack of accessible support create conditions which mean mental health and well being suffer. Studios and streamers must listen to the hardest working professionals in our industry, and help create a working culture that we can all be proud of and respect our labor equally." She tweeted.

Once her tweet was posted, she went to go convince her fiancé to get some sleep and then later try to convince him to speak out about his story in those rough conditions if he was comfortable doing so.

She didn't need to convince him to sleep, because when she found him he was fast asleep on his side of the bed.

(Y/n) was asleep for another few hours before he woke up to make some food for himself. Emma tried to get him to speak out about it, but he had refused and decided maybe he would wait a bit before speaking out on his story.

In the meantime however, he was going to campaign for more IATSE rights and better working conditions, and eventually speak out on his story when he was comfortable doing so.
