Shortly after Loki leaves the house to talk to Thor I receive a call from Fury. Assuming he's calling us in for a mission I skip the pleasantries and get straight to the point.
"We can be there soon I'll have to go get Loki he just left for Thor's."
Seeming amused by my eagerness he teases me slightly though his usual serious demeanor doesn't waver all that much from it.
"At ease soldier as of now I actually don't need you two for a mission today."
"Oh?"
"Yes I have a reporter on the line that says they'd like to talk to you but didn't know how to get a hold of you so they called S.H.I.E.L.D one of my interns apparently thought this was worth my involvement. Do you want me to tell the reporter to forget it or do you want to hear them out?"
This is odd reporters have never tried this approach before, I guess it couldn't hurt to see what they want.
"...umm sure you can put them on."
Sensing my nervousness Fury's tone softens ever so slightly, he's seen just how potent my anxiety can be.
"Okay just hang up on them if they make you uncomfortable alright."
While he always pretends to be indifferent anyone could see he cares a lot about each member of the Avengers, this includes me and he doesn't want me to feel trapped in a situation I'm uncomfortable with.
"Yes Sir."
"Alright switching the lines now."
There's a click and a moment of silence before a masculine voice comes over the phone.
"Hello? Is this Mrs. Samantha Howlett Logansdottir?"
I answer in what I've been told used to be the way one would respond to such a question when answering the phone back in the olden days. This person is being so formal that simply saying 'yeah' seems somehow impolite.
"This is she."
"Good morning! I'm Will Adams with WHiH World News and I was just calling because of what was said during a recent interview you did with a correspondent in our entertainment department. Though it seemed to be an extremely sensitive subject it struck us as a story deserving of having light shed upon it. We were wondering if you and your husband would be willing to expand on the topic further during an on screen interview."
My anxiety spikes a bit. 'An interview?' That would mean being in a newsroom surrounded by a camera crew, wardrobe and makeup crew, and talking to a person who's pretty much a stranger about a topic that's very personal and traumatic. I don't know if I'm up for that then again I sometimes feel like me and the others who suffered at our captors hands have been way too silent since we were rescued and I'd also like to bring what happened into the light.
"I uh... I don't know... I'd probably have to talk to Loki about it before I agreed to something like this..."
I just don't know what I want, talking to Loki will help me sort it out. It's also important that I know if he's comfortable with doing an interview before I agree to one. Mistaking my anxiety over the prospect of doing an interview for anxiety over asking Loki a simple question the reporter jumps to conclusions.
"He's pretty controlling isn't he?"
I'm so surprised by this statement I actually don't register what the reporter is insinuating right away.
"I'm sorry?"
"Well I saw in the interview he spoke for you for most of it and that he escorted you around everywhere during your walk on the carpet."
What he's implying hits me and I feel a rush of anger.
"...excuse me?"
He senses my offense and tries to smooth things over.
"I'm sorry, that wasn't meant to come off as rude it's just a rarity nowadays. I'm not judging you for that kind of relationship but it's just not as common these days it makes sense though as he's been around since what? The ninth century?"
I'm silent for a moment trying to reel myself in from how pissed I am over this assumption. People tend to jump to the conclusion that Loki is a sexist when he's the complete opposite. Just because he's old doesn't mean he's stuck in old ways!
At the end of the day if you really break it down he's a bisexual, gender fluid, 20 year old suffering from daddy issues and self loathing that stems from the rampant racism Asgard has for Frost Giants (his natural form). Suffice to say He doesn't exactly fall into the demographic you think of when you think of misogynistic pigs! I take a deep breath.
"The tenth. ...Let me make one thing completely clear. Every decision we make in our relationship is made together with equal respect for each-other. I suffer from severe anxiety when among strangers, especially men, and he knows that so he spoke for me then not because of some false sense of superiority but out of kindness."
"...I'm sorry Mrs. Logansdottir I apologize for being so quick to assume, he's been very distant from the public eye and I guess I just jumped to the conclusion based on only part of the picture. I understand if you're not going to consider the interview anymore I've spoken out of turn."
I sigh. I can hear sincerity in his apology and I know he's not just saying it to appease me so I'll do the interview, he's actually sorry.
"Apology accepted, you wouldn't be the first to jump to such a conclusion. How can I reach you? I'll discuss the interview with my husband and get back to you."
He chippers up at realizing I'm not horrendously offended by him and that he hasn't botched all hopes of an exclusive interview with us.
"Thank you Mrs Logansdottir! You can either email me at WillAdamsWHiH@gmail.com or call me at 555-709-5485."
"Okay I'll let you know what we decide."
After explaining to Fury what the reporter wanted I hang up the call. I can't help but still be slightly peeved at people's tendency to judge my man without knowing all the facts. At his core he's a soft boy he's just earned himself a bad reputation that people can't seem to get over.
I look at the table still set from the breakfast he made me this morning. How does a man so sweet have a reputation so sour? I shake my head as I begin cleaning up thinking about how adorable he was this morning with his hair up in a bun as he flipped pancakes. Nope I don't understand at all how he's managed to keep people so upset with him.
