—-Loki—-
We brave the crowd once again and take a seat at the wedding party's table in the building's banquet hall of sorts. There are already roles and cups filled with mead on the table. Sam immediately starts eating and I shake my head in disbelief smiling slightly.
"What? it's my wedding."
"I didn't say a word."
"Well your face is loud."
This makes me chuckle. Mary suddenly comes bounding up to the table her assigned place is beside Sam but she has someone with her.
"Sam!! Is that a crown?!"
Sam blushes at how much attention Mary is drawing but still smiles before replying shyly.
"Yes..."
"You look so beautiful in it! And with your dress, you look like a freaking Disney Princess!!"
Sam's cheeks burn slightly redder at Mary's complements making her all the more adorable. She replies using that same timid voice.
"Thank you."
"Anyway what I came over here to tell you guys... actually that can wait, Loki is it true you told our father you'd cut off his guy parts and feed them to Vili?!"
"I... how the Hel do you know that?"
Sam bursts out laughing at my admission though she looks a bit confused as to how Mary knows that herself. I was speaking a language originally native to Asgard that's only known to Midgard as Old Norse, even if the video the press took has somehow gone viral in the last half hour it's a dead language that shouldn't be able to be translated.
"Doug here overheard him when he flipped out."
Sam and I are still obviously confused.
"But I was speaking a dead language."
"Oh... yeah, Douglas didn't mention that. Doug can you explain the thing?"
The boy she brought with her looks nervous as he steps closer.
"I ah, I'm omnilingual... I can understand any language, that's my mutation. I know it's not great..."
Sam looks at him in disbelief.
"Are you kidding?! That's an awesome ability! It's got to be so convenient to understand everyone around you no matter the situation!"
He can't hold back a slight smile but still looks disappointed with his ability.
"It doesn't help me to fight."
She looks him in the eyes as if to assert that what she's saying is very important.
"That's not all being an X-Man's about we're working for peace and an ability like yours is amazing for bringing people together, besides with time and practice you'll learn how to fight even without defensive mutant abilities. You're going to be a great X-Man."
He smiles a little more at her words of encouragement.
"Thank you... your highness?"
He seems unsure of how he should address her and also afraid of offending her or probably more so of offending me. She smiles to ease his obvious nervousness.
"Just Sam is fine Douglas. Anyway what was it you wanted to tell me Mary?"
Mary now seems nervous.
"Well I just kinda wanted to let you know that this is my boyfriend. We started dating just before everything happened and I wanted to introduce you guys in person instead of just talking about some random guy you've never met, he just joined like two maybe three months ago."
Sam smiles immediately accepting Mary's judgment of his character.
"Mary I can't believe you got a boyfriend and didn't tell me!! It's so great to meet you Douglas!"
As they exchange pleasantries of small talk I'm unsure how to react to the new information and look over the young man with scrutiny searching for anything I don't like. I want to be sure Mary's dating someone who will treat her well. The only thing I can deduce about him from what I've observed is that he's nervous around me which either means he's scared or he's hostile. If he's scared that can be amenable but if he hates me this could be a bumpy road ahead.
He looks nice enough well put together and well mannered but then again this is a wedding celebration so I can't be sure. I then study Mary's expression as she's looking at Douglas at the moment, she seems happy, excited to see him after being separated and excited to show him off to her sister and brother-in-law.
I offer a small smile coming to a decision about how to react to this perfect stranger dating my little sister. Anyone who could make Mary look that happy has to be good for her, not that I won't be keeping my eye out for any signs of mistreatment. I suddenly realize my thought process, when did I start looking at her this way? As a sibling. I couldn't say but I'm happy to claim her as a sister. I hold my hand out towards him.
"It's nice to meet you Douglas, I trust you'll treat her right."
He tentatively takes my hand and shakes it.
"Y-yes Sir- your highness."
I smile at his nervousness and respectfulness. I really hope it's only due to a general wariness of me and not due to him fully fearing me.
"Just Loki is fine young man."
He smiles in relief. Mary kisses him on the cheek quickly then taking him by surprise.
"You better go find a seat."
"...Y-yeah, ok I'll see you guys later."
We express our farewells and he smiles at all of us looking relieved about the whole encounter before retreating into the crowd milling about. Mary then takes her seat beside Sam.
