What Have You Done?

Fury sounds both confused and slightly suspicious as he explains what was found. Nothing but burnt rubble from a fire that suspiciously burned none of the forest around it. Thor is glaring at Loki now so I can assume he's figured out exactly what really happened. Mary's confused by the shift in Thor's mood and I can tell we're all waiting for Loki to end the call with Fury to start badgering him, well everyone but me that is. Finally Fury hangs up unknowingly leaving Loki to deal with his angry brother.

"Loki what have you done?!"

Loki shrugs and doesn't bother lying about it.

"What was necessary."

Thor looks extremely mad as he stands up and begins yelling at Loki.

"I wouldn't be able to justify protecting you from punishment if you were caught!"

Loki responds calmly.

"I won't be."

Thor sighs and goes on.

"Loki!!! You must not be so reckless!! You can't just hunt whoever you deem guilty down and kill them!"

Loki stands up himself, now angry and looks at his brother challengingly.

"And why not?! They threaten my wife I cannot allow that!"

"Because you're the only family I have left damnit!! I don't want to see you sent off to the raft or worse the prison they're working on that's inside the negative zone... I'd never get to see you again."

Loki goes silent at Thor's outburst and Thor goes on.

"...you insist upon keeping me in the dark."

Thor looks away in sadness obviously feeling Loki doesn't trust him.

"I... I would have asked you to come if my plans hadn't hinged upon me entering undetected."

Thor glares at him lifting his eyebrows in disbelief.

"Then why not tell me what's going on?!"

"Because I knew you would want to come and when I was done I realized I may have gone too far with my methods... I thought you'd be angry."

The last part was said in almost a whisper.

"Loki... I don't know what happened but what's done is done, I trust you will not make a habit of this behavior... if you continue I cannot allow it."

Loki nods looking a little surprised at Thor's willingness to drop the topic already.

"So long as Sam is safe."

Thor nods slightly.

"I cannot fault you for protecting her... just be careful brother."

"I will. ...I should have told you."

Thor sighs.

"I understand why you didn't, I can be overeager. ...will you be in need of an alibi?"

Loki offers a small smile

"It couldn't hurt."

Thor and Loki begin discussing the alibi and my eyes wander to Mary who looks unsure of what to think. I stand up and go to take a seat next to her. I feel like I need to defend my husband's actions.

"He doesn't ever do this kind of thing normally..."

"I know, that's not what's bothering me."

I make a look of surprise and she goes on.

"I should be bothered by it but I'm not... I'm glad, relieved even. They just, they hurt you really bad. You and Laura and Logan, and who knows how many more. They needed to be stopped. But this wasn't really the right way to do it was it?"

"Not legally."

"No, but no one is going to weep over it either are they? I'm sorry if it makes me seem bad but... to me this was right, you know what I mean? I mean they tortured and used people like slaves..."

"I know... you're not bad, sometimes things are complicated. ...S.H.I.E.L.D probably would have killed a majority of them anyway."

"Yeah..."

Mary apparently decides this discussion is in desperate need of a topic change.

"I'm also pretty excited to get to go home and spend time with Doug. I was really missing him."

I smile. I'm glad she's found someone to love even if he's not the one this will help her to find someone and she deserves that kind of happiness.
