Author's note: I'm sorry guys please bear with me I need to get some stuff done with Sam and don't really have all that much to do with Loki on this particular day in their life because like Sam's said wedding planning is boring. So there are going to be a few chapters dedicated to Sam. Loki's perspective will come back but there are some character things that need to happen with Sam in the next couple chapters please don't leave Loki will be back in the story soon I promise.
—-Sam—-
I enter the common room to find Laura up and awake. Her cheeks are stained with tears. She probably had a nightmare. Before everything I would've turned around and left her alone if I saw her like this because I know she doesn't want people to see her that way. I also couldn't ever really do all that much to help because I just wouldn't have been able to understand what it was like back then not to the extent necessary. Now I find myself quietly taking a seat next to her.
"Hey."
She looks slightly surprised I'm here.
"Sam..."
"It's alright I get it, you don't have to explain."
The things that plague her nightmares are likely a little different from mine but just as potent. She'd been subjected to levels of pain as a child no human being should ever have to endure and all because some impatient scientists couldn't just wait for her to hit puberty when her powers would've manifested naturally.
They made her kill, they turned her into their weapon, all that among other tortures was enough that most people in her situation wouldn't have been able to rehabilitate not mentally or emotionally. Yet here she is, now an X-Man leading a relatively happy life.
"You would now wouldn't you?"
I nod sadly.
"Yeah..."
"You been holding up ok with that?"
She clearly doesn't want to talk about her own trauma. That's ok. I just want to help in any way I can so I'm not going to push her to talk about it.
"...It's gotten better. Loki helps."
She nods.
"I'm glad you had him, I sometimes wonder if you would've been ok if he hadn't come along."
"I wouldn't have been."
I know that's a blunt statement but I can't see any way I would've been safe if he hadn't been there. I would be in some M.R.D facility or worse some government lab somewhere if he hadn't stepped in. I'd also likely be suicidal.
"I'm glad you guys are getting married. The way he looks at you... well, you deserve someone like that."
"Speaking of the wedding, I was wondering if you'd be one of my bridesmaids."
She nods with a small smile.
"Yeah I would. ...man your wedding's gonna be chaotic."
I laugh a little.
"Tell me about it with the guest list including the Avengers and the X-men that's gonna be a lot of very excited superhumans in the same place... I wouldn't have it any other way"
We're planning on sending out the invitations to the teams tomorrow, every New Asgard citizen is welcome to take part in the celebration. Things are going to get a little crazy but I'm marrying the god of Mischief so I should probably get used to a little madness.
"Let's hope not too many things get destroyed."
I smile at her attempting humor despite probably having been in no mood for it a couple minutes ago. She's feeling better and I'm glad I could help even if I'm just a temporary distraction from whatever was on her mind. Sometimes a brief distraction can be enough to get you through the day. I can offer more of a distraction...
"Yeah hopefully, speaking of being destroyed you wanna take on the 2017 air hockey champion?"
She laughs softly. I'm so happy with this I know she's suffered a lot in her life and I never felt like I could help her before. I just wasn't equipped to but I have now and the small smile on the face of one of my best friends was worth the risk there had been of her lashing out at me for intruding on her space.
She's never liked having people around when shes dealing with her emotions. It's a part of her she mostly keeps to herself. I had to learn when we met that this wasn't because Laura was mean or she didn't like me but it was just her way of coping with everything.
"Sure. There's nothing better to do. ...also you're the one going to be destroyed."
I laugh.
"Is that so?"
We get up and make our way to the table where the air hockey battle of the decade begins.
