—-Peter—-

We're not even a block away from the police car when a feminine voice comes through on the walkie talkies we didn't really realize we were wearing they're the kind stereotypically worn by cops on every crime drama.

"Officer Howlett, Officer Parker, how's your progress going on that 55?

I relied on listening to police scanners enough in the early days of my superhero carrier to know a code 55 is a missing persons case. I answer back playing along because I have a slight suspicion that there could be an actual hostage involved in this situation now.

"We're just getting started. Can you remind me of our 55's description again?"

Logan looks at me in confusion. The lady on the walkie talkie goes on.

"Our 55 is a 120 pound 5'8 white female in her early twenties hair color red and eye color green. Last seen wearing a black dress with high heels. Her legal name is Mary Jane Watson."

So we do have a hostage involved in this now. Logan looks slightly impressed.

"Ki- Pete How'd you know what she was talking about?"

"I used to listen to police scanners to figure out where I needed to go. Ya know for Spider-Man stuff. Back when I first started out after-"

I stop suddenly Logan is not currently on my list of people I'm willing to open up to about uncle Ben. It's been years but hurts all the same, I could have stopped it if I just wasn't being so stupid.

"After?"

I shake my head.

"Let's just find our hostage so we can get out of here."

Logan seems to sense he's not going to get a straight answer out of me and nods.

"We'll have to search the old fashioned way because I don't have this lady's scent."

I rack my brain for a way we can find this woman quickly. Every second we waste is more opportunity for Mojo to kill us, a hostage, or one of our friends.

"...Maybe there's an evidence bag in the car?"

Logan looks like he wants to argue for the sake of arguing as if he can't believe I was just helpful twice in a row before deciding that that would be a stupid waste of time.

"...Worth a look."

I look through the glove compartment and find a ziplock bag with a scrap of black cloth in it.

"Looks like a piece of her dress."

Logan takes it and opens it up.

"Huh I smelled somthin' before but I just thought it was background 'noise'."

"You got her scent now?"

"Yeah."

He turns and starts walking away from me. I mutter under my breath.

"Ok I guess we're just leaving now. No need to talk things over or plan anything."

"What was that?"

I sigh. 'Right enhanced senses.'

"Nothing."

We continue roaming through the city for some time.

————————————————————

We eventually come across what looks to me to be a completely abandoned and run down building I step forward to approach it but Logan puts out his arm and stops me.

"Wh-?!"

"Shhh!"

He pushes me so we're both hidden from view of the windows of the abandoned building and keeps his voice low.

"Here I thought you'd be experienced enough to know she ain't alone."

I'm once again angry with this guy but giving him a piece of my mind can wait till after the hostage is safe. I also keep my voice down.

"I didn't even know we were close to reaching her a little communication would be really great. How many people are we looking at anyway?"

"Don't worry about it. I'll go in and take them all out and you can be the one to deal with the girl."

I roll my eyes.

"I already told you I can handle it. Now how many are there?"

He sighs then smells the air again.

"Twenty on the first floor ten with the girl on the third floor. All of em are armed."

"Ok so I'll go straight to the third floor and you go in through the first."

"No."

"That wasn't a question. I'm going, now either help me or don't."

He grabs my arm stopping me from leaving.

"Kid, stop damnit!"

'Ok that's it!'

"What is your problem man?! Why don't you trust me to know what I'm doing?! I'm not incompetent I even saved Sam all on my own doesn't that mean anything to you?!"

"It means more than you could even know to me!"

That stops me in my tracks I stop trying to pull away from his grasp on my arm and in turn he loosens his grip on it.

"Do you understand how much you mean to her?! You were one of the first people she started trusting again after... after everything she's been through! I can't let anything happen to you! Not on my watch! So I don't care how good at this shit you are just stay the fuck out of my way because I can't risk my kid going through another loss! Not so soon after Stark, she's been through enough!"

"Logan..."

I'm not even sure what to say. He doesn't think I'm incompetent he just doesn't want to risk the chance of in his mind being responsible for my death. I think of something to say.

"...she needs you to be safe too. I understand that you just want to save her from more pain but risking your own neck and possibly loosing it won't help that so let me help you because she needs you even more than me... she used to get so homesick and I can't help but think her tears were for you."

He's silent for a good minute thinking what I've said over.

"...fine. Then we watch each other's six."

I smile slightly. 'So he actually does trust me.'

"Yes sir."
