—-Loki—-

As I begin eating my 'fast food' I feel my magic shift as the bracers return to me right on time the three hours and twenty seven minutes being up. I smirk to myself I can rest easy now knowing they'll never fall into the hands of Sam's enemies again. I'm going to destroy them after I build my magic back up from what I've exerted today. Sam spots my smirk and giggles slightly. I suppose my smirk does seem a bit out of place.

"Enjoying your Mcnuggets?"

I look down at my food in disgust.

"They're terribly unhealthy, it's no wonder the lifespans on this realm are so short if this passes for food."

"You're probably right but how do they taste?"

I sigh Sam's got me there I frown slightly.

"Admittedly good."

Mary giggles at my answer.

"And... that's why we Midgardians have a problem."

I nod. It may become my problem too if we don't get back out of the house soon and stop eating fast food curtesy of Thor. Not to say him providing us with the delivery of food due to Sam's anxiety over myself or Mary leaving the house isn't appreciated but we almost always have fast food to make it easier for him. I feel like I'm shaving centuries off my lifespan. Sam laughs at her sister's comment then seems to decide on something and looks at me seriously.

"So Lo' I think I want to start doing things more normally, I still don't think I'm ready to go on missions again but if Thor is here and you're needed I'd be ok if you went. I also think it's time we visited downtown."

I smile both in pride and relief at her newfound bravery.

"Alright then mortal."

After spending hours 'binge watching' The Office all three of us decide it's time to get to bed. Mary's the first one to leave exiting to her room two doors down from ours. We aren't far behind as Sam is nearly asleep leaning on my shoulder instead of asking her to come to bed I just carry her because of how close to sleep she looks. She quickly settles in next to me falling asleep seconds after she's settled in. I place a light kiss on her face, turn out the light, and follow her into the abyss of sleep mere moments later.

————————————————

I wake up and am saddened by the familiar sound of Sam whimpering in her sleep. I turn on the light beside our bed noticing tears rolling down her cheeks as I observe her lying next to me. I'm filled with sadness and anger at the state she's in. 'I'm going to kill everyone who caused these dreams if it's the last thing I do.'

I then brace myself as I gently shake her awake knowing she'll likely either lash out physically or with her abilities the punches are nothing but her abilities have proven to be a formidable weapon regardless of any person's invulnerability. She jolts awake looking around wildly in confusion luckily her powers haven't lashed out at me this time.

"L-Lo'?"

I respond back calmly in what I hope is a soothing voice.

"Yes darling it's me."

"They- S.H.I.E.L.D they took you away..."

She's trembling in fear.

"No mortal no they aren't going to do that. "

"That- that's not all..."

The second part of her dream must be far worse because she can't control her sobs to finish her statement. She's distraught and collapses into my arms clinging to me tightly. I hold on to her but it seems to do little to console her. She's sobbing so profusely and trembling so violently even as I attempt to tell her everything is alright. She just barely manages to get out a sentence before her sobs take over once more.

"They had you."

I don't even know which 'they' she's talking about. It doesn't really matter, I try the usual things that comfort her after she wakes up from a nightmare but none of it's working, what can I do for her? ...I find myself doing something I'd long forgotten about something mother did for me when I was very young. I'm surprised by my own lips as I begin singing in a tongue I rarely use though it's commonly used just East of us.

"Vargen ylar i nattens skog."
(The wolf howls in the forest.)

I'm not so sure of all the words or even if I have the right rhythm but I continue on when Sam's sobs lessen slightly at the sound as I hold her.

"Han vill men kan inte sova.
(He wants to, but he cannot sleep.)

Hungern river i hans varga buk
(The hunger tears the wolf's belly)

Och det är kallt i hans stova"
(and it's cold in his burrow)

She seems to be finding the same comfort I had found as a child as I sing. Her sobbing has stopped and her shaking has become less violent though tears still flow from her eyes so I continue.

"Du varg, du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don't you come in here)

Unen min får du aldrig.
(I will never let you take my child.)

Du varg, du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don't you come in here)

Unen min får du aldrig."
(I will never let you take my child.)

I can't remember the next verse or even if I  have this verse correct but Sam isn't shaking anymore. She breathes a deep breath in and out slowly, trying to calm herself from her anxiety attack. I speak softly in reassurance.

"I'm not going anywhere mortal."

She nods into my chest still clinging to me. I stroke her hair lightly with my hand as I hold her. She eventually calms down enough that her breathing and heart rate return to a relaxed pace. She shifts to make herself more comfortable as she lays all but on top of me.

"Thank you."

I turn my head and kiss her forehead softly in response and she drifts off to sleep.
