Fretting

I'm surprised when I return to the jet and see that the kid is sitting beside Loki. Though Loki's using a different form the kid still was terrified when he woke up and even more afraid when we started to call after him. I didn't think he would've been ok with anyone with the state he was in ex-supervillain or otherwise. I expected the kid to be restrained in some way when we got back but no, the kid planted himself firmly next to Loki and even seems to try to keep Loki between himself and us.

I pretend not to notice when the kid takes Loki's hand during takeoff. Like me the guy's self conscious about that sort of thing. When we land in Stuttgart the kid seems really hesitant to go with Laura and looks to Loki for reassurance he talks to the kid and is actually really good with him.

I can tell Loki's uncomfortable with the situation but he's handling it like he's used to dealing with kids. When Laura gets back from hauling the three of them to the police station (one of the other two woke up and Laura was able to coax them down from their panic) I see a weird look on Loki's face like he's not sure how to feel about leaving the kid behind. He sits there now back in his normal form looking deep in thought as we fly back to Tønsberg.

"You did good with that kid."

"...yes thank goodness he's gone, he was far too clingy."

I wouldn't even need my enhanced sense of smell to sense his bullshit from a mile away. I decide to keep my mouth shut about it though, what's done is done and I don't see the point in pushing him about it.

I'm so relieved as Loki steps through the door I can't help but run to him. My nightmares hadn't come true yet, he's safe at home. 'Why do I smell smoke?!' I look him over for any injuries.

"Are you ok? Loki Odinson is that smoke I smell?!"

"Darling stop fretting I'm fine. Everything went incredibly smoothly I have no injuries the smoke is simply due to my means of disposing of evidence."

I'm almost afraid to let myself let go of the worry that's hovered over me this past month at his implication of success.

"So... they're gone?"

"Yes mortal they're gone."

Suddenly relief washes over me at his confirmation and I find myself collapsing onto him uncontrollable tears of relief falling from my eyes.

"Thank you... I'm so glad you're safe."

He's quick to embrace me

"Aw love..."

I pull away with a smile on my face.

"There's still time left today... we should go celebrate."

He flashes his own signature charming smile.

"If that's what my queen desires."

I nod feeling happier and safer than I have in a while. We go to the bedroom to change and wash up (I've been chilling in my pajamas) Peter smiles fondly at the two of us as we pass where he sits on the couch. I quickly change back into the clothes I was going to wear before and soon the three of us leave the house to rejoin the wedding celebration.
