Sam reacts first not to the news of the existence of a god butcher but in concern over hearing her fast made friend is hurt.
"So wait is-is Quill gonna be ok?"
Steve's expression goes from solemn to reassuring as he turns his attention to Sam knowing just how emotionally involved she can get when it comes to those she considers her friends regardless of our only meeting once.
"They think so but the Guardians aren't going to be able to come help us anytime soon. They got pretty roughed up by the shadow creatures Gorr had at his disposal. The Guardians that weren't injured are busy settling their new base on Knowhere, Quill said in his message they bought it from The Collector.
They're moving the few Falligarian survivors from Gorr's last slaughter to live there so they'd be too busy to come even if we could get a jump point we recently detected activated. Fury said that jump point hasn't been used since the Kree came through it in the 90's."Jane becomes both excited and dumbfounded by this new information.
"There's a jump point near Earth?! ...Who are the Kree and why-?!"
Steve shakes his head holding up his hands in defeat at the astrophysicist's questions.
"... I know I know it's a lot, don't ask I was asleep remember? A capsicle."
He turns back to Sam, Thor, and I as he makes reference to one of the many nicknames Tony bestowed upon him. I smile slightly at the name. He turns back to her as he goes on.
"Also I don't even know if want to know the answer myself. The only thing I know about it is that Fury said something about Carol sending them packing last time the Kree came through it."
Sam looks confused for a moment before putting together who Steve's referring to.
"Carol...? ...the chick who showed up during Galactus?"
"Yes her. It sounds like she damaged their warship."
"Warship?! Huh... I really thought 2012 was the first time the entire world was first introduced to aliens, S.H.I.E.L.D must've done one hell of a coverup."
She pauses for a minute having run out of things to say to distract herself from the problem at hand. Finally she gives up and asks the question that's on everyone's mind.
"...So what are we going to do about Gorr?"
Thor opens his mouth to speak but before he can he's interrupted by the sound of a shrill cry from outside the community building we're currently all holding our meeting in. We rush outside and it's made immediately apparent our attempt to prepare for Gorr's arrival through this meeting was in vain.
—-Sam—-
As I look out at New Asgard I see utter chaos, what I can only describe as shadow demons are swarming our city. Asgardians are running to and fro as the creatures terrorize the neighborhood. We all immediately take action Thor telling Jane to stay put as we run head first into the fight.
Thor, Loki, and the guys all end up heading towards a pale man I assume to be Gorr, fighting monsters whilst trying to reach him. Sif, Valkyrie, and myself also start trying to fend off the rampaging monsters though we're less focused on trying to reach Gorr himself.
Though we've somewhat separated into two different groups I still keep an eye on my husband ready to drop what I'm doing and be at his side in a second should he need me. From a glance we happen to share I know he's prepared to do the same. Refocusing on the battle at hand I notice with shock that some of the creatures are carrying bodies away from the scene.
I take a closer look as I take one of those creatures on... I'm relieved when I notice it's not holding dead bodies but again horrified when I see what they actually are... in the monster's clutches are terrified children. Asgard's children, Asgard's future, that's what Gorr's here to steal and probably destroy. I fail to even land a blow that phases the creature before it's carried them away from my sight.
Jane, predictably from what I've heard about her, has ignored Thor's demand to stay out of the fight and is trying her best to help some of the few children who are left find a place to hide. I barely notice she's being approached by one of the creatures and is just about to be attacked by it before something wild happens. I yell as Mjölnir is somehow yanked from my grasp.
"Woah hey!"
I chase after it in vain for a few yards even though it left me as fast as lightning and is already far beyond my reach. Then I realize where it went I look to see Jane now holds my weapon and is garbed in the Lady Thor armor preset into it.
We make eye contact briefly and for a second she looks just as surprised as I am by this turn of events. Before either one of us can question this though the creature pounces on top of her.
I run to help summoning two short swords to fight with rather than my usual choice of daggers due to Loki's affinity for them. Sometimes butter knives just won't do the job. Jane reflexively uses my weapon to protect herself haphazardly sending a blast of lightning sizzling through the dark hel spawn.
The creature rears back letting out a pained cry seemingly injured from the blast and hurriedly runs away from the scene leaving the children Jane was protecting behind. The cry seems to signal the other monsters in the area and must even signal to Gorr that it's time to go because just like that all the monsters flee the scene presumably with Gorr.
From a scan of our surroundings I can see he's now nowhere to be found. Jane looks at Mjölnir in her hands with confusion finally letting her curiosity take over now that the battle is over.
"I don't know what happened, I just saw that thing coming for me and suddenly it was in my hand."
I smile slightly I'm incredibly worried and anxious over all the children Gorr has taken from us but I'm also more than happy I get to explain to Jane that she must be worthy. I remember how I felt when I first found out and am almost giddy getting to see someone else experience it though I know the true realization won't set in till later.
"It tends to do that when someone worthy is in trouble."
She looks downright confused.
"No, there's got to be a mistake ...I'm not worthy-I-I mean I'm not a bad person but I'm not... I'm nothing special."
I shake my head still smiling in reassurance.
"Mjölnir seems to feel differently. I also think Thor'd have something to say about that."
Jane's face lights up, she ignores my comments.
"Thor, Thor must know why his hammer's broken!"
Before I can say anything else she's all but flown off to seek answers. I shake my head and follow her. Mjölnir is not broken she's simply got to be in denial, either that or there's gotta be another reasonable explanation. Mjölnir was endowed with a spell spoken by Odin himself there's no way that's broken.
'Is there?' I pick up my pace slightly also now a bit anxious to get answers about how this is possible. If Thor doesn't know I certainly hope Loki will.
