I try to forget about the fact my 'father' is running for office. I shouldn't care, other than the fact I know my vote will go to his opponent, it shouldn't matter to me. But it continues to eat away at the back of my mind until I can't focus on what I'm reading. I sigh shutting my book. I pull out my phone and begin researching this year's campaign...

Oof this year's election seems even more divided than 2016. Henry Gyrich vs Nicole King. It turns out King is the woman that I witnessed defending mutants during the Mutant Registration Act conference. From everything I've seen during my brief research she's got my vote. She wants to reinforce the policies the Civil Rights Movement already brought about and make sure mutants are receiving equal treatment under the law.

She sees the M.R.D as redundant and expensive she would reassign the minimal amount of actual good work they do to S.H.I.E.L.D. She also wants to do away with legislation that's made mutant deaths during interactions with police skyrocket since its implementation. All mutants under the current policy are considered armed and dangerous.

This is enough justification for lethal force to be used against them at an officer's discretion. The murder of innocent mutants has happened far too many times even during something as simple as a traffic stop. There have been so many deaths that I understand where groups like the Brotherhood draw their hate from. Hate isn't going to fix this problem, it only confirms what some people already think.

Really all we can do is keep showing them we're not the bad guys and hope we can eventually live in peace. I begin to research some of Gyrich's policies and I understand why Hank is loosing sleep over all this. Dear old dad wants to implement a sentinel program using technology that would be confiscated from Stark Industries to get a handle on what he's coined as 'the mutant threat'. The sentinels would be capable of identifying mutants and apprehending them.

I assume with the use of these sentinels 'accidents' would become quite frequent and people would die. He also wants the X-men not only re classified as a hate group but as a terrorist organization. If that happens the government will eventually come knocking on the school's front door with a literal army if we don't take extensive precautions.

He'd also expand the amount of power and reach the M.R.D has, setting up multiple facilities in each state. Honestly we're at a crossroads right now and things in the United States could be heading for disaster. If our 'father' wins I am going to get Mary out of here. The other X-men can defend themselves but Mary needs at least another year of training before she'll even get to sit in the jet during a mission.

I'm antsy and can't sit here anymore. I attempt to clean up my spilled cereal, I vanish the book via magic to borrow for a little while planning to finish it in my spare time over the next few days before returning it, and head out of the library towards the common room. I need a distraction and if anyone's awake they better be ready to face the 2017 master champion of air hockey.
