Rejected invitation

When you got to Shield HQ, your brain was in a tizzy. You knew that you had to give your report as soon as you were done in the medical wing, Maria walked beside you while Steve and Tony led you both there. You weren't missing the looks they both kept giving you, it was full of curiosity and something else you couldn't put your finger on. Tony almost seemed excited about something.
"Thank you, gentlemen, for the escort, we have it from here" Maria smiled at them both as you both walked into the medical wing.
"We will be in Fury's office" Tony advised with a smirk.
"We won't be far behind you; he likes a verbal report before the actual one" you smiled fully. "Sorry about Natasha's shirt, I got some blood on it"
"I'll replace it" Tony shrugged and headed on his own way, Steve on his trail.
"About time you two got back" Doctor Cho smiled as you both walked in.
"You're gonna hate me doc" you jumped up on a table and winced.
"Got shot again?" she chuckled.
"And stabbed" you shrugged. "Maria has a few grazes and knife wounds" you added quickly.
"You're headed for the regeneration machine. Get undressed" she pointed to the normal room to change in that had a robe to cover up with. You dutifully changed and came back out heading to the machine and getting in after shedding your robe, already knowing the drill. Doctor Cho came over and started up the machine and sat beside you making sure the bullet was out and there was no shrapnel. Once she was satisfied, she changed her gloves and went back to Maria. After about an hour you were healed up, just a little sore and got up quickly so Maria could take your spot. You still had a few bruises, but you didn't mind those. You had rather Maria got taken care of too.
"I'm going to go drop off the data to Fury, and see Daisy. Meet you at 6 for drinks?" you grinned at Maria who gave you a thumbs up.

"Why have you been hiding an enhanced with these kind of capabilities from us? Do you know how many times we could have used someone like her on missions? You know, the ones where you asked us to save the world?" Tony had been in Fury's office for a while with Steve and they were both adamant that they wanted you to join the Avengers initiative.
"Its not that simple. She's reckless" Fury started
"No, Tony's reckless" Steve responded quickly.
"She doesn't warm up to people easy" he tried.
"Neither does Bucky, but he makes a great addition to the team. Don't say a word, I'll never admit I said that" Tony looked at Steve.
"She's my daughter" Fury finally gave in.
"She looks nothing like you" Tony shook his head.
"Adoption has been a thing for a long time Tony. I picked her up on a base raid when she was only eight. She was terrified, and hurt. I told her I would find her a family, but after we did the interview of what she went through I couldn't let her go to some strangers. So, I raised her. I put her through school, she was raised as an agent, so its all she knows. If I agree to the transfer, you have to promise me you'll try to keep her safe. If she gets hurt, call me. That isn't a request" Fury spoke gently. "But you'll also need her consent to transfer, and she won't go without Daisy"
Tony and Steve stood there shocked for a few minutes trying to process what Fury admitted to them.
You took that moment to walk in, using your normal confident strides as you came in taking in the room. You saw that there was still company in the room, so you bit your bottom lip and took a hesitant step forward.
"Agent Y/N, I believe you've met Steve Rogers and Tony Stark" Fury was setting the tone of the room. You nodded.
"Yes sir, they kindly gave us a lift home as you already know, and Steve helped me with a majority of my wounds. Maria is in the regeneration machine now sir" you fished the three data sticks out of your pocket and placed them on his desk. "As requested, sir"
"Are you seriously his daughter?" Tony broke the small silence.
"Adopted" Fury reminded him.
"Yes" you nodded. "Its not something we advertise. I was raised right here at Shield once I was done school every day. Where's Daisy pops?" you looked at Fury.
"I put her in the side office" he pointed to a door and you ran over and threw open the door. The sound of howling and whining filled the air. Steve and Tony swiveled in their chair to look over at you and you were holding a medium sized dog with large pointed ears, that looked like a miniature German Shephard.
"I'm taking her for a walk, thanks for keeping an eye on her for me" you smiled carrying her out the door.
"That's Daisy?" Steve was shocked thinking Daisy was a kid.
"Change your mind yet Tony?" Fury gave a smile, knowing that animals were not allowed on the compound technically.
"Yes, I need to think about this" Tony started.
"Loki walks around as a cat all the time, and Bucky's been needing a service animal to help with his PTSD" Steve reminded him.
"Y/N, how would you like to relocate?" Tony asked after a moment's hesitation.
"Sorry, I don't go anywhere without Daisy" you shook your head. "Your rules state no animals"
"You just finished a month-long mission without her" Tony shrugged.
"Not interested" you shook your head.
"Wait, I've already looked at your impressive file. You would be an amazing asset" Tony seemed to be struggling. "I can make alterations to my rule"
"Would it be for your whole team, or just for me?" you raised an eyebrow.
"You" Tony licked his lips in anticipation.
"No, you can't break the rule for one person. You need to change the rules" you saw Fury grin at you. He knew you wouldn't let that go. "If my father taught me anything, if its in your capabilities to cause a positive change then its your responsibility to do so. If you want me, change the rules for everyone. You know where to find me" you walked out with Daisy on her leash.
"Steve" Tony looked at him, almost begging. "Talk to her"
"You heard the woman; she won't change her damn mind" Fury grinned. "Believe me, once she makes up her mind there's no changing it. You know where to find her"

You took Daisy for a long walk outside before heading back to your living quarters. Maria was already in your living room with a bottle of wine and two glasses filled waiting for you.
"To completing our mission" she handed you your glass.
"To the mission" you nodded, doing cheers with her before downing the whole glass. "Did you ever want something more than this?" you were second guessing your decision.
"More than what?" she asked sitting back on the couch while Daisy.
"More than being a Shield agent" you shrugged.
"Your dad pays me well, and I love what I do" she smiled. "Tony saw your powers and wants you, didn't he?"
"I told him no" you gave a sad smile.
"Are you crazy?! You would be doing what we do, but even more. You would be more than just recon missions; you would really be helping to protect the planet" she almost spit out her wine.
"I'm not going anywhere without Daisy" you shook your head. "Steve said they needed pets on the compound, and Tony has a rule against them. Tony offered to break his rule for Daisy, but that's not fair to the people that already live there that may want a companion" you sighed, taking another drink of wine.
"If anyone could join the Avengers, and be able to make a difference, it would be you; out of everyone we know" Maria sighed. "You're an idiot turning him down"
"I told him to change the rule, and he would know where to find me" you shrugged and she gave a small laugh. Daisy jumped onto your lap and curled up in a ball letting out a long groan. You gave a small giggle and started running your hands through her fur.
"What about Nick in IT?" Maria asked after a long silence.
"No" you shook your head.
"Why is it a no this time?" she demanded.
"I don't know what he looks like, or what he is like" you looked at her seriously.
"Blind date it is!" she grinned.
"Please no" you begged.
"Oh yes, this is happening" she was quick to be on her phone, then held it out to you proudly. "He agreed. Sunday at 7pm, he will meet you at Baci's. Its Italian food, wear a dress and do not disappoint me" she warned you.
"I'm happy being single. When I meet a guy, and there's a connection, you'll be the first one to know" you crossed your arms.
"How do you know there wont be a connection? She demanded, and you just gave in. She was right, as usual.
