Bucky's face lit up with Fury wanting to talk about the wedding and the babies.
"We are so excited" Bucky smiled happily. "Can you believe we can feel them moving already?" he asked.
"Did you talk about names yet?" Fury asked curiously.
"While we were on the mission, but Y/N wants to keep them a secret. We both came up with a lot of different names. She even included my ma's name if one of them is a girl" Bucky grinned happily.
"What do you plan to do, to keep them safe?" Fury asked what worried him the most.
"We planned on staying at the compound for now, but to be honest, I want to get a real home for us so the babies can grow. Keep them away from work, and keep it separate. I know Y/N will want to get back to missions, but one of us will have to stay with them. And after this week, I don't trust Tony" Bucky admitted in a rush.
"What about you taking some time off work?" Fury took a sip of his beer and led Bucky back up the stairs and towards the living room.
"I wanted to ask Tony to keep me around the compound for now, just until the babies come. Then I was going to take some time off to help take care of them for a few months" Bucky seemed deep in thought.
"That's something I should have done." Fury sat down on the couch and gestured for Bucky to do the same. "She just moved in, and I barely took a week off. I didn't keep work and personal life separate, and she grew up with the expectation she was going to follow in my footsteps only to die at any given moment. I don't want your children having the same problem"
"We talked about it, we want them to choose their own path. Super soldier, enhanced or not, it's their life and their choice" Bucky spoke softly. "I want them to be safe and learn self defense, just in case"
"They might be a target for Hydra" Fury warned him. "I lived with that nightmare for most of Y/N's life, thinking they were coming for her. If you get a house, you will have to put in a lot of security protocols if it's away from the compound" he continued gently.
"That's what I'm worried about. I want them away from the compound, but I want them safe and can't think of a safer place" Bucky admitted softly.
"If things ever start to feel unsafe, you can bring them here" Fury offered. "It's about time I did some renovations" he shrugged.
"That's a lot to ask of you" Bucky shook his head.
"You're family now son" he smiled in response. "Now tell me about the wedding"
"We want an outdoor wedding" Bucky smiled softly. "Tony planted a rose garden for Y/N, and Loki plans on helping a lot by the sounds of it. They've bought so many wedding books, the girls I mean, and Y/N's been looking through them. I looked at a few. We decided on the menu, but not the date or anything. Y/N doesn't want to be showing as much as she is, I'm worried she wants to put it off until after the babies come. I just want to marry her as soon as possible, and I think she looks absolutely beautiful with that baby bump"
"Remind her of that" Fury nodded his head. "I know it will boost her confidence"
"I tell her every day, sometimes it's like she doesn't believe me. But I mean it, she looks amazingly beautiful no matter what she does. She took my breath away the first time I saw her, and she still does that to me every day" Bucky flushed a bit.
"Well, we have an appointment Wednesday to bring her to go look at dresses. Maria is going in my place, you are coming with me to look at tuxedo's. Who are the groomsmen?" he asked expectantly.
"Steve for sure, but I haven't really asked anyone yet" Bucky admitted gently.
"If it's a small wedding, you don't have to ask many" Fury reminded him softly. "I know Maria will be in the wedding. Those two have been thick as thieves since Y/N was sixteen"
"Loki's been a huge help, even before the pregnancy. He's been Y/N's good friend since she started with the team" Bucky whispered. "I should ask him, and bird brain"
"You'll have to talk to Y/N, make sure she's okay with your choices, but I doubt she would be against it" Fury gave a full smile.
"I just want her day to be perfect" Bucky sighed.
"It's both of your day, and it will be" Fury promised. "I'm willing to bet the flowers will be blue roses"
"I'm hoping, I'm trying to let her decide," Bucky chuckled. "The blue reminds me of her powers, and she does love her roses"
"I've got an idea" Fury stood up suddenly and went to his desk in the living room, and took out a key to open it. "You can't tell her I have this, I went back to her childhood home to get this, and added to it as she was growing up" he picked out a large photo album and came back to sit beside Bucky. "Look at how chubby she was" he cooed, opening to the first page and Bucky grinned from ear to ear.
"Would you look at that, she still has those same eyes" Bucky smiled softly. Fury started flipping through the pages.
"Here, this is her real parents" he pointed to a photo of a couple dancing, holding a baby between them. In the background of the photo, Bucky could see roses on the table. He realized roses had been important to you, your entire life.
"They look happy" Bucky mused.
"From what I researched on them, they were a very happy couple. They kept mainly to themselves, there was no family left after we found her to return her to" Fury looked a little sad. "I wanted to give her back, or at least some visits so she could know them. But there was no one left" he shook his head. "Hydra didn't just hit her family, they hit the whole family. She doesn't know that though"
"Why would they kill an entire family?" Bucky sounded so sad hearing the news.
"No one for her to turn to if she ever escaped I guess" Fury shrugged. "When I found her, she was pretty broken up. But she was strong. She told me her story, and once I heard it, I knew I couldn't let her go to strangers. She became my little girl the day I got her out of that cell" Fury spoke softly. "I didn't know what to do with a kid, but I'm pretty proud of how she turned out" he smiled fully, as he continued to go through the baby book.
"What's that?" Bucky pointed to a photo where you were wearing a small crown on your head of flowers.
"Our first picnic" Fury smiled. "I was terrified to bring her out of the house for a long time. So I brought her to the backyard. She went to the forest and started picking flowers and made a small crown. I couldn't help but take pictures. She's eight in this one" Fury gave a proud smile. "She started coming out of her shell once we started leaving the house a little more. Even if it was just the backyard, she seemed happy to be outside"
"How long did it take her to trust you?" Bucky asked gently.
"A long damn time. She was always afraid I was going to lock her in a room, or that I wasn't going to feed her. She was afraid there was something in her food for a long time. Took her a while to gain some weight. She used to try to bring home pets all the time, but I had to put my foot down. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to take care of them. She certainly proved me wrong" he flipped the pages to show you in dance class, or in self defense classes. "I had to get her security detail to take some of these" he admitted.
"Were you that busy?" Bucky raised an eyebrow.
"I didn't want anyone to know I had a kid, so I had to keep up appearances at work. Sacrifices had to be made. I'm not proud of it. I should have been home more with her, helped her with her homework. She was a natural though. She picked up what she missed in school so easily, and then surpassed everyone in her grades. She worked hard. I always thought it was a good thing, but I forgot she needed time to learn to be a child too" Fury admitted softly. "I hope you don't make the same mistakes I did"
"I'm hoping to be a hands on father, like I always wanted to be able to do that one day" Bucky gave a small smile, and his face broke out into a grin when Fury turned the page to you in your first Shield uniform. You had a determined look in your eye when you were looking at the camera, and Maria was beside you. He continued flipping through the pages, and he stopped at the day he first met Daisy and you were holding this little puppy with the proudest smile on your face.
"I love that one" Bucky chuckled. "She loves that dog so much"
"From the moment she picked her up, she called me when she was on her way home with Daisy. I was on a mission at the time. I told her to get rid of her, I was a little mad that she went and got a dog when she was on missions all the time. I didn't realize she was getting lonely" Fury sighed. "I remember the reports on her nightmares were a lot back then. But they dwindled down after she got Daisy. Soon it was rare to hear she was having them anymore. I knew she was still having them, but Daisy seemed to be helping a lot" Fury went to the next page. You were laying down on the couch they were currently sitting on, you had bruises along her arms and face, and had Daisy nuzzled between your arms as you slept.
"She looks so peaceful" Bucky gave a smile.
"She had just come off a month long mission, and walked into the house in the middle of the night. I woke up to seeing her like that, couldn't let the opportunity go to waste. I knew then the dog was here to stay" he chuckled. "That was six months after she got Daisy, I continued to tell her she should get rid of the dog to keep up appearances, but I fell in love with her too" he admitted gently. "Just like that little eight year old kid stole my heart, so did that damn dog. I couldn't get over how happy she made her"
"Even when we were on the mission, Daisy was always one of her main focuses'" Bucky grinned. "We would get home late, and the first thing was making sure Daisy got to go outside to play. Every morning she would go outside for her coffee or her tea, and she would sit down and just throw the ball for her. She relaxes a lot with her" he mused.
"She relaxes a lot with you too. She's not the hardass woman I knew her to be growing up. She's a lot softer now, more loving" Fury smiled at him. "Thank you for being so good to my daughter"
"She's been good to me" Bucky whispered.
"You've been good for each other, even I can see that" Fury got to the end of the photo album, and it was pictures of Bucky holding you, and you gazing at him so lovingly. "Look at the smile on her face" he sighed to himself. "Look at the smile on yours" he added and looked at him knowingly.
"I wish I had something like that. A photo album I mean" Bucky spoke softly. "Most of it was lost, I have a few pictures of my family, it's up in our suite"
"You can start one of your own now" Fury gave him a smile. "I better put this away" he stood up and put it back in the drawer and locked it. "I know someone else had her first, but she's always going to be my little girl in her flower crown" Fury gave a soft smile, but Bucky knew there was a warning behind it.
"I'll always treat her like a princess" Bucky vowed. "She's become the queen of my heart"
