Newbie (Bucky x Reader)

Lone mission

When you woke up, you were pleasantly surprised by no nightmares. You didn't remember a night in your life since you were four, that there were no nightmares. You slowly opened your eyes hearing the soft purring of Alpine and felt two strong arms holding you from behind and the steady breath on the back of your neck. You didn't really want to know the time; you knew it was mission day.
"Good morning beautiful" you heard Bucky's raspy voice from behind you.
"Good morning handsome" you flushed a bit. His arms tightened around you and he gave you a soft kiss on the back of your neck giving you a bit of a shiver.
"How are you feeling?" you heard him stifle a yawn.
"Surprised, no nightmares" you admitted as Daisy came over to lick your face.
"Me neither" he seemed confused for a moment, but let it go. "You ready to go for your morning run?" he nuzzled into the back of your neck.
"Born ready" you giggled.
"I'll take the balcony to go get changed" he slipped out of bed, and you turned to watch him with a smile.
"Thank you for staying" you whispered.
"It's the best nights sleep I've had in years, I'll do it anytime" he smiled and headed to the door while you slipped out of bed and went to put on your shorts, sports bra, and a tank top. You brushed your hair back into a ponytail, knowing you would have to take a shower before the mission. You were determined to make this a quick and easy mission so you could hurry back. You didn't want to work for Shield anymore, now that you had a taste of what being an Avenger looked like. You quickly brushed your teeth and called Daisy as you headed for the balcony door throwing on your sneakers. You saw Steve, Sam, and Bucky just about to stop at your door when you smiled at them.
"You boys ready?" you quirked an eyebrow.
"For you doll? Always" Bucky winked.
"Oh please" Sam rolled his eyes. "Its too early for your flirting"
"Its never too early for flirting with a gorgeous dame" Bucky shrugged while you started leading the way down the stairs.
"Only you Buck" Steve chuckled.
You got to the bottom of the stairs and started your stretches and Daisy went to play in the grass. She was getting used to the new normal, where she had more freedom, and seemed to revel in it.
"Lets go sexy legs" Sam started to jog past you and you scrambled to catch up, then started keeping pace beside him while Steve and Bucky started passing you both several times. "You worried about your mission?" he asked as you both jogged slowly.
"Yes" you nodded. "I don't trust my partner"
"Just keep your phone on you, if you need us, just call" Sam reminded you. "Tony has all our numbers programed in there, I think my name is Birdbrain"
"Oh, I was wondering about that" you were surprised. "I guess I put Bucky and Steve in twice then"
"Bucky is probably Manchurian Candidate, and Steve is Star Spangled Banner" Sam chuckled. "It's a guessing game at first. "Yours is Newbie on our phones for now"
"At least until you find another one" you shook your head with a laugh.
"You don't know, do you?" Sam looked surprised. "The team was full, he didn't want anyone else until he met you"
"How can the team be full, you guys always seem swamped with everything you take on. Especially the big bases, which I'm looking forward to" you admitted.
"Because we work as a family, its hard to just bring someone in. There was something special about you they saw, because they don't just ask" Sam shook his head. "That's the closest I have ever seen Tony coming to beg" he chuckled.
"I don't see what's so special about me" you frowned.
"I see it, the team sees it. That's all that matters for now. You'll see it someday" he promised. "Do me a favor? Check in with us while you're on the mission if you can"
"I'll do my best" you promised. You had gone around the track three times, and could start to feel it in your legs. "I better go get ready; I don't want to keep my partner waiting. He's going to be here shortly after breakfast" you gave a strained smile.
"I'll meet you there, sexy legs" he continued jogging while you took the stairs up with Daisy. She went for her morning kibble and a drink of water while you went in for a shower.

By the time you were done getting dressed, you didn't bother with makeup this morning. It was going to be a potentially week long mission, and you weren't out to impress anyone. You even wore a pair of cotton panties, but a good bra. You didn't want him looking at you the way you wanted Bucky to look at you. You put your hair in your normal bun like you would when you worked for Shield, and noticed there were kiss marks along your neck and collarbone visible and flushed. You had forgotten Bucky likely left them there the day before. You put on your holsters and sat down to pat Daisy for a few minutes to calm your nerves. You finally gave in and picked her up as you went to head to the dining room to see the team already waiting. You hesitated, not wanting to put her down, and you saw the look on Tony's face as though he understood you were struggling this morning.
"Your face looks like its ready for a funeral" Nat quipped.
"Yeah, my own" you finally set Daisy down, who yipped wanting back up. You shook your head and sat at the table.
"Gimme your phone" Tony reached his hand out. You quickly took it out of your pocket as Bucky came in with Steve and Sam. You saw him start to download something on it, and slipped two small pieces to the bottom. "We have your tracker already set up in your arm, but if you need us, your cell phone will act as a satellite phone if necessary, and there's a piece here that's going to keep it charged for at least two weeks. Don't take it off until you get back, Hell, just give it to me when you get back and I'll take it off. Call us if you need us. Text us to check in. There's nothing in the rules about that" Tony handed you back your phone. You were touched that Tony cared that much, and nodded silently, afraid if you said anything your voice would betray you and you would start to cry. You were terrified this morning, and you knew Wanda and Loki could tell. They were not saying anything for your benefit. Bucky loaded up your plate instead of letting you get your own, and you picked at your food, eventually giving in since you'd likely be living off granola bars for the next week.
Everyone was quiet this morning, seeming to keep to themselves. As soon as you finished you put your plate in the sink and sat on the floor and held Daisy close, not caring who was watching. You heard the jet land outside, and finally put Daisy to the side who started whining.
"You gotta be good for the family, they are going to take care of you while mommy is gone, okay?" you gave her a kiss between the ears. She licked your face and you gave a small smile.
"I'll take her outside so she doesn't have to see you go" Pietro offered and you gave a small smile.
"Thank you Pietro" you felt like you were going to cry. You gave her one last kiss.
"If I don't make it back, please make sure she gets a good home" you looked at Tony.
"You'll make it back, her home is here with you" he shook his head.
"Don't think like that doll" Bucky stood up and held you close for a minute.
"I need to gear up" you stood back after a few moments. You hung your head as you walked to the artillery room, and you started filling your holsters and grabbing extra ammo. You were expecting to make the walk to the jet on your own, but found yourself surprised when you felt Nat come over and take your hand.
"You can always change your mind" she whispered to you.
"Recon's are my jam, I got this" you set your face in stone. "Just don't trust the partner, that's all" you admitted.
You saw Anthony standing outside the jet waiting as Nat walked with you. You heard some feet behind you, but refused to look back.
"I'll see you in a week" you let go of Nat's hand and strode forward, faking your confidence.
"Hey doll, you forgot something" Bucky's voice called from behind you. You were almost at Anthony who was looking at you like you were a piece of dirt. You turned to see Tony, Steve, Loki and Wanda standing beside Nat and Bucky running to you. He grabbed you and dipped you back kissing you softly at first before his tongue brushed at your lips and you automatically separated them for him. He easily kissed you, deepening the kiss slightly before you let out a soft moan and ran your hands through his hair. He set you back on your feet and gave you another chaste kiss with a smile.
"You're Anthony?" Bucky asked him, giving him a dirty look.
"Yes?" he asked, seeming a bit shocked at the display that just happened in front of him.
"Bring her back in one piece or else Loki is using his knives on you, and my vibranium fist is going up your ass to turn you into a puppet" Bucky gave an easy smile while he said it, and you had to stifle a giggle. "Be safe doll, looking forward to our next date" he gave you another kiss and you smiled while passing Anthony and getting on the jet. Anthony nodded to Bucky unsurely and quickly joined you.
