Newbie (Bucky x Reader)

Before the arrest

When you finally got out of bed, you were exhausted still. You slowly made your way to grab your second mask, unsure of what the outcome was of the drop off. You put on your mask and headed down the stairs after putting your phone in your robe pocket. You made your way to the kitchen and started cleaning up the breakfast dishes. You could smell the strawberries from the leftover cupcakes and decided you were going to munch on one of them while you continued to clean up. You could almost smell chocolate and had a sudden craving for Nutella and strawberries, but you knew you hadn't picked any up. You grabbed your phone without thinking about it, and dialed Bucky's number.
"Doll, is everything okay?" Bucky spoke as soon as he answered the phone.
"Of course it is, I was wondering if you could pick something up on your way home tonight?" you asked hopefully. You heard him chuckle on the other end of the phone and pause for a moment.
"You haven't checked your email have you?" he asked.
"Nope, but I have a strong craving for chocolate and strawberries. Can you pick up some Nutella please?" you asked, trying to be cute about it.
"I'm coming home early, I'll pick it up on my way" he sighed softly.
"Why are you coming home early?" you perked up.
"Check your email, are you sure you should be out of bed?" he asked worriedly.
"Yes, I'm fine. Can you get more cupcakes too?" you asked hopefully.
"For you doll, anything" he said lovingly. "I better get back to this, but go back to bed if you get nauseous" he warned you.
"Baby, I'm okay" you smiled. "I love you" you cooed to him.
"I love you too" he waited a moment before hanging up. You went and checked your phone, and saw the arrest was scheduled to be made today, and extraction was tomorrow. You felt anxiety fill you to the brim, wondering how Stephanie was going to take it. How everyone was going to take the news in this small little community. You pulled some strawberries and peaches out of the fridge and just made a large bowl of them before turning on the water to boil for some tea. You grabbed another cupcake and rubbed your lower belly while taking a bite. You went into the bathroom to make sure your mask was okay, and nodded to yourself before making your tea and heading outside still in your pajamas, with Daisy and Alpine.

"Rough morning?" Laura looked over the fence while she was in the middle of doing her gardening.
"Yeah, I got so sick I had to go back to bed. Which is crazy, because I woke up craving strawberries and peaches again" you took another bite of your food.
"It will be a good few more months for that" she gave a grin. "I want to touch your little belly already" she gestured to your small bump already showing through your robe.
"I can't believe it's there, to be honest" you flushed. "But with the extra food, I guess it makes sense"
"You do start showing earlier with twins" she nodded. "Did you finish that book I lent you?" she asked quickly.
"Let me go grab it, I did finish it. It was a good read" you nodded and got up quickly to go to the living room to grab it for her. You came back and handed her the book with a smile. "Thank you. I am going to have to buy some more books on this, now that I'll be on desk duty" you let it slip.
"Desk duty? As a housewife?" She looked at you confused.
"Oh, you know James, he wants me to do less now" you flushed realizing your mistake. You would be able to explain it more soon, just not quite yet.
"That makes sense" she still looked confused and you bit your lip.
"Did you want a strawberry?" you asked quickly, trying to change the subject.
"No, you go ahead and enjoy them. Maybe go take a bubble bath, you're looking a little pale" she added softly.
"It's just my nerves, and well, the babies" you shrugged and went back to your table. Daisy brought you the ball to throw it.
"I'll see you in a bit, I still have some gardening to do" Laura smiled and waved, walking away. You finished your bowl of fruit, and sipped your tea, while throwing the ball for Daisy. You finally felt a little bit better, and headed back inside to put on some clothes for the day. You took a quick shower, before putting on a yellow sundress and a little bit of makeup before heading back downstairs.
You had barely sat on the couch when the front door opened and Bucky walked in.
"James..." you started.
"They are doing the arrest today, I didn't want you to be alone just in case he tries something" Bucky kicked off his shoes. "I'll take a quick shower, why don't you come upstairs where I can see you"
"James, I could kick your ass. Just because I'm carrying babies, doesn't mean I won't kick Ron's if he comes in here" you growled slightly.
"I brought you some Nutella, and some more cupcakes" he said as an offering. "Now will you come upstairs and sit on the bed for a few minutes?"
"You sir, are a con artist" you giggled and stood up. "Fine, I'll go sit on the bed while you take a shower. Cupcakes first" you held out your hand.
"No, kiss first" he grinned putting a bag down, and he pulled you close and he brushed his lips against yours quickly. You hummed happily as he deepened the kiss and pulled back after a moment. "You were into the strawberries again, weren't you?" he chuckled.
"I was hungry" you shrugged and he opened the bag and took out a box. He opened the box and handed you one cupcake and you turned it into a cupcake sandwich before eating it, and slowly following him upstairs. Daisy and Alpine quickly followed you both, and you sighed happily as you sat on the side of the bed.
Bucky moved quickly to get undressed and grabbing clean clothes, walking around the bedroom confidently naked. You hummed happily watching him and he looked at you and chuckled.
"Later, I'm too worried right now" he told you.
"I can be ready anytime when it comes to you" you purred to him.
"With the right touches, I know you can" he winked and went into the bathroom, leaving the door open. You watched him curiously as he took a shower, and thought about all of the things you would love to be doing to him right now. You sat back and ran your hand over your small baby bump and saw that he kept stealing glances out at you while you were sitting outside the door.
"Do you think they are going to be enhanced?" you finally asked while he was coming out, and wrapping the towel around himself.
"Do you want me to be honest?" he asked you quickly.
"Yes" you nodded.
"I think there's a big chance. You were born that way" he nodded. "With at least the water powers"
"This seems to be a bigger bump than it should be" you bit your bottom lip.
"I thought of that too" he nodded. "We won't know until we get back, maybe have Bruce run some tests" he looked at you hopefully. "I'm worried your body won't be able to handle two super soldiers" he admitted softly.
"I'll go for the tests" you nodded. "But I'm confident I can handle it" you smiled at him.
"Stop gazing at me like that, makes me want to just go arrest Ron so I can have my way with you" he chuckled.
"Let the team do their job" you giggled and stood up. "Now that you've showered, I'm going downstairs to start on supper" you checked the time.
"Lets order in tonight" he stopped you.
"There's a lot of food that's going to go to waste" you shook your head.
"I don't want you near the windows" he admitted.
"James, you can't protect me from every little thing honey. I'm okay to make a meal" you rolled your eyes and headed downstairs.
"Just wait for me" he called and you heard him thumping around in his rush to get changed. He came down a few minutes later while you were preparing a large fruit salad for dessert, looking forward to adding some whipped cream to it. You boiled the water for some tea and looked at him as he sat down across the counter from you and was watching you closely.
"Did you want to do a bar-b-que?" you asked hopefully. "I took out chicken" you took it out of the fridge.
"Sure, as long as you stay in the house" he agreed readily.
"I'll make it then" you sighed. "James, I'm not going to hide inside until this is over. In fact, I want to see the arrest happen"
"No, that's a bad idea" he shook his head.
"You are not taking that from me, we worked hard on this" you shook your head.
"Fine, you can go outside, once he's in handcuffs" he growled slightly.
"Was that so hard?" you asked with a victorious smile.
"Doll, when it comes to protecting you, it's very hard" he admitted softly.
"I don't need to be protected" you shook your head. Bucky grabbed the chicken and started to prepare it for when he took it outside. He kept looking at you nervously, and looking out the windows. You pretended to be unbothered by it, but you were a little bit. He was being overly protective, and you understood why. But this was the plan all along, and he had to get on board with that. You made a spinach salad while he was outside at the bar-b-que and finally went to sit to put your feet up and wait on him to finish with dinner.
