Upsetting breakfast

When you woke up in the morning, your head was hurting a little bit. You looked over and saw Daisy was snuggled right up to your side. On your beside table there was a bottle of Aspirin and a bottle of water. You quickly reached for the bottle and took two and drank back the entire bottle of water. You looked at the time, and it was only 5am. You went to change into your shorts and a tank top before calling Daisy to just follow you instead of putting her on the leash. You put on your sneakers and grabbed your headphones and cell phone. You made it to the bottom and went right into a jog. Daisy yipped happily as she ran to the side while you did your run. You went around the track several times before you started to feel winded. You didn't pull any of your abilities out for this morning, you knew you still had to take a quick shower and make breakfast. You knew Fury's schedule; he would show up thirty minutes early to watch you cook and ask you questions about your week. He would leave as soon as the meal was over after giving his fatherly advice. It wasn't much, but since you moved out over ten years ago, this was the routine.
"Come on Daisy" you called to her. She had given up chasing you and was laying on the grass panting. You led the way back up the steps and went to pick out a pair of light blue jeans and a white blouse, since you knew you would have to change your top later for your date. You took a quick shower and changed before heading to the kitchen. It was odd to walk around the compound when it was so quiet. It was like no one was awake yet. Daisy trailed after you as you went into the kitchen and started pulling out large bowls to make batter, and two waffle irons. You grabbed the ingredients you needed, then also went for bacon, eggs, and fruits to make a large fruit salad. You had almost all of the waffles done, the eggs and bacon were on the warmer, and the salad was in the fridge. You heard your fathers steps come into the kitchen as he came up close to you.
"Good morning pumpkin" Fury's voice filled the room.
"Morning pops" you looked over with a smile.
"How was your first week?" he raised his eyebrow.
"You know it went okay. I practiced a lot with my abilities, makes me tired" you admitted.
"How are the nightmares?" he asked as you saw people starting to come down the hallway towards the breakfast table.
"Not too bad, I have Daisy as always" you gave a shy smile.
"You know that dog isn't going to always be there" he looked at you skeptically. "You know there's such a thing as loving someone too much"
"There is no such thing, she's my lifeline" you shook your head. "I don't know if I could survive without her pops"
"What are you going to do now, when you go on missions?" he demanded as you saw Tony and Pepper sitting at the table.
"Can you come and get her and watch her for me tomorrow? I have a recon" you bit your bottom lip.
"You know I would pumpkin, but I have a few things that need looking into. I'm going to be gone for a few weeks again" Fury sighed.
"Pops, do you have any security detail that can just come and watch her and keep her safe?" you went and put the food on the table since you had already set it.
"Why don't I watch her?" Steve offered as he sat down beside Bucky.
"No, I can't ask you for that" you shook your head.
"But you can ask me for a security detail?" Fury looked at you shaking his head, while going to his seat.
"She's innocent to this life, I can't let her think I abandoned her if you can't watch her" you glared at him.
"Really, I love dogs. Please, can I watch her? I know it will help you focus on your mission" Steve insisted.
"I would trust him" Fury looked at you while you looked back at your father pouting.
"I'll vouch for him" Bucky spoke up and you flushed a little.
"Please Steve, watch my baby. I'll leave you a list of her vets, and my phone number, and an emergency babysitter" you looked at Steve.
"She's a dog" Tony seemed surprised.
"That's her baby" Fury reminded him. "I have the list too, she sends it via email every month to remind me"
"I also have her favorite toys I'll leave out for you, and her favorite treats. I'll leave my bedroom door open in case she needs a nap. She likes to make a nest in the blankets when its time" you let him know as you went to take a seat and Bucky pulled out your chair.
"She can stay in my room, I'll let her make a nest. It would be nice to have the company" Steve gave a smile.
"I can go with you for walks with her" Peter offered. "I like dogs too"
"We can all be her security detail" Scott grinned.
"She just doesn't like to be alone" you admitted.
"No, she howls" Fury admitted. "She chewed a hole in the wall once when I left her alone for too damn long"
"You shouldn't have left her without her toys" you shrugged as you pulled in your chair. "I warned you"
"Alright, what's this about you going to a club last night?" Fury changed the subject.
"I went dancing" you sat up in your chair.
"And drinking" he gave a level gaze.
"It was girls night. Some of the guys came" you admitted.
"You should be more careful, people can roofie your drink easily" he took a waffle and started to butter it.
"Pops, I'm almost thirty. I can take care of myself" you glared at him.
"I'm just sayin, you need to be careful" he pointed at you with his fork.
"Pops, I'm careful" you rolled your eyes.
"You're never careful enough" he shook his head.
"Pops, I swear... I was careful. I had people watching out for me. Can we just enjoy one meal?" you glared at him.
"You never should rely on someone else to watch out for you" he quipped.
"That's what you do when you're on a team pops. I trusted Maria to have my back, and now I trust these guys to have my back" you gave him a level glare.
"Well said" he gave a small smile.
"Why are you busting my balls then?" you demanded.
"I wanted to hear you say you trust them" he grinned. "You shouldn't trust anyone a hundred percent"
"I'm not the king of spies, I get to choose to trust people" you rolled your eyes.
"Is this how your normal breakfasts go?" Sam looked concerned.
"Yes" you both said at the same time.
"He wants me to not trust people, play my cards close. I don't like having secrets, unless they are necessary" you added.
"She trusts people too easily, and is too honest" Fury crossed his arms.
"How does she trust people too easy, she only spoke to you, Maria, and the dog before" Tony looked confused.
"That's too many" Fury decided. You just rolled your eyes. "At least I don't have to do any more background checks now that she's too busy for dating"
Nat looked over and gave a smirk, and you saw Wanda almost giggle.
"Pops, enough. Just one nice meal" you sighed.
"Breakfast is delicious" Bucky smiled at you.
"Thank you, Bucky," you smiled happily.
"We haven't had waffles in forever" Pepper smiled happily.
"Is there nutmeg in these?" Happy added.
"Yes" you smiled.
"How did you learn to cook like this?" Sam asked.
"Pops was at work a lot, so I read a lot of cook books. I tested my cooking on the security detail" you gave a smile.
"You can cook for us anytime" Bruce grinned.

Once breakfast was over, you knew Fury wanted to talk to you again. He wasn't done giving you a hard time. You walked him to the door, and noticed that Bucky and Steve were close by heading to their rooms.
"Remember, you shouldn't trust people so easy" he pointed at your chest.
"Pops, I'm on a team where it literally means that I have to trust them with my life. I'm not going to change" you shook your head. "Its my choice"
"I worry about you kid" he sighed heavily.
"Just be careful on your mission pops" you gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"No more dating until I get back" he ruffled your hair.
"Pops, if I date, that's up to me. I'll have you know I met someone I like, and if I date this person its not going to be up to you" you spoke firmly.
"Who is it?" he stopped at the door.
"If something comes from it, I'll tell you" you shook your head.
"It better not be some deadbeat you met in a club" he shook his head.
"Love you pops" you waved him away.
"Love you too kid, next time I want to hear more about this guy" he warned you.
