Grian had passed his tests, and his coronation to become a Prime Watcher was to happen in the coming month, on his new birthday. The last thing he had left from his past was only still there because it was permanent. A Pheonix tattoo on his back, but it would be underneath his robes anyway so neither of the Prime Watchers cared.
Grian stood at the edge of the courtyard, watching the Watchers fly. Sadness filled him as he studied the white and purple wings. One of the trials to become a Prime Watcher, was to lose their wings. They would be given wings when the crown was placed on their head, and power and magic would determine what type of Prime Watcher they would be. Their wings would help signify that to other Watcher Kingdoms, or child Watchers.
He couldn't wait to get his wings back. After all, he hadn't needed to grow wings when he was changed to a Watcher, he was a Ro'mian after all. The Nether equivalent of the Overworld's Avians and the End's Elytrians.
His wings used to be red, and they would glow in the dark or when strong emotions were present. After being changed, they were a dull purplish red, and they only glowed when he was angry or frustrated. Now without his wings, it felt like he lost a part of him he could never get back.
Grian wanted to wrap his wings around himself, but knew he couldn't. He stopped himself from crying, and turned to walk back to his room in the royal palace.
The walk was a blur, but when he opened his door, he saw two of his best friends. Both had black hair, but one was pale and had a mustache, while one was of a darker skin tone and had blue headphones around his neck. The mustached one was Mumbo, and Taurtis was the one with headphones. Taurtis leaned against the bed frame, and Mumbo sat on the bed.
Mumbo wasn't a Watcher, so it was likely that Taurtis opened a portal for Mumbo to visit through. Taurtis however, was a Watcher, though he did whatever he wanted and went against the Prime Watchers wishes constantly. It was a suprise Taurtis hadn't been executed for treason yet.
Taurtis looked mad, while Mumbo looked anxious and worried. They looked at Grian, and Mumbo softly smiled to him, though Taurtis glared at him. Grian waved and was about to speak when Taurtis did.
"So, when were you going to tell us your a candidate to become a Prime Watcher? When you kill us?" Taurtis said.
The anger and malice in his voice scared Grian, but Grian understood.
"I'm not going to kill either of you-" Grian tried.
"Yeah right, you would've said something if you weren't going to." Taurtis snapped, cutting off his best friend.
Mumbo looked at Grian sadly, but said nothing. He looked really uncomfortable, and Grian didn't want Mumbo to get yelled at by Taurtis. It was his own fault that this happened after all.
"Can I-" Grian tried.
"I hope you realize that you won't have to kill me, at least, anymore. Your nothing to me anymore." Taurtis said. "Your ego is to blame for everything and everyone leaving you."
