Grian had snuck off to the Nether before, it's just the first time people had followed him. Grian hadn't noticed, just making his way to the private lava lake he loved.
Grian could feel the excitement as he got closer and closer. He really needed to calm down, so this was the best place for him to be. He loved this place.
Once eh made it there, he barely hesitated as he ran to a side of one of the floating islands, and flung himself off and down into the lava below. He knew a yell of excitement had left him before he splashed into the lava, but he swore he heard a yell of his name.
His blue eyes turned red as the lava engulfed him, pulling him deeper into it's grasp. His shoes began to burn away, leaving him eventually barefoot. His sweater stayed, but the jeans also burned away. Luckily Grian wore flame proof shorts underneath all of his jeans, so he wasn't naked underneath.
Grian felt his wings grow out of his back, through holes the lava had burned away, the lava numbing any pain Grian would've felt. His tail unwrapped itself from Grian's thigh, and swished happily in the lava.
The lava was warm and calming.
Grian spread his wings, the soothing feeling of the lava cleaning the wings and tickling him caused him to hesitate. Before he flew to the surface of the lava, and towards the small island near the center.
The quiet crackle and pop of flames made him smile.
He landed on the soul sand beach, and let his toes spread the sand. His tail wagged like a dogs, as he felt instantly better. He glanced at his wings, only to adore the three separate flame colors.
His wings themselves were mainly red, with a strip of yellow, then purple. If the purple been blue, he could get away with saying he was a parrot Avian subtype or whatever the Overworld Avians were called. The flames matched the colors of with wings, following the same pattern.
Grian felt calmer knowing his wings were on fire, then if they weren't.
You see, Grian was a netherian Avian, otherwise called a Nightingale. Nightingales were made for speed, agility, and surviving extreme heat, as they'd adapted to the nether. The wings were stronger then diamonds, but some wings could get to the same density as Netherite. Their wings would produce the same flames as their color depentant on strong emotions or if their wings graze flames. It depended on the type of Nightingale, but most had a hard time getting burned.
The wings themselves were extremely weak to the cold, and most Nightingales feared water. Grian was one of the lucky few who actually loved water, but he got sick easily because of the lack of extreme heat.
Grian fell backwards onto the surface of the lava, floating their like a human would the sea. It was calming, and Grian could feel himself being dragged into the grasp of sleep.
Until his communicator buzzed.
He opened his eyes and groaned as he sat up in the shallow shore. He checked it, thanking the gods his communicator was lava proof.
"New message from Xisuma!" The screen practically screamed. He was annoyed, but knew it had to be important, so he checked it.
XisumaVoid: You're a Nether Avian?
Grian's eyes widened as he read it again. Xisuma knew...?
Grian got out of the lava and looked around the floating islands to see anyone. His eyes stopped on some Hermits who stared at him with suprise.
He could faintly make out Tango, Impulse, Zedaph, Scar, Doc, and Xisuma. Both Tango and Impulse were demon hybrids, though different types, and Zed was, what he assumed to be, a human. Scar was a Vex, with more magical abilities then his fellow vex Cub, and Doc was a creeper Hybrid. Xisuma's was unknown, but Grian could tell by the presence around him, he had met a Hybrid like him before.
Grian sighed and took off to them. He landed on the edge and waved to his friends nervously. Scar and Doc took a step forward, reaching for his wings, but Impulse and Tango stopped them.
"Could you... extinguish the flames?" Xisuma asked.
Grian nodded and his wings shook the flames out. The feeling of ash and soot under some of his feathers was distracting. Like most Hybrids, Grian hated his hybrid parts to be dirty.
"Your actually a Nether Avian." Xisuma muttered, his eyes trained on the Avian's wings.
"Can I touch?" Scar asked, pointing to the wings.
"...Uh..." Grian began, confused. Scar would never intentionally harm him, but there was also a chance of more debris getting caught under his feathers. 'I can just take a dip in the lava to clean myself.' "Yeah, sure..."
Scar instantly walked over to Grian's right wing, and began to rub his fingers under the feathers. Grian felt the waves of relaxation hit him, and it took all of his focus not to close his eyes. He heard Tango's chuckle, and swiftly threw a glare at him. His tail flicked happily behind him though.
"You know you could of told us, right?" Xisuma said, causing Grian to nod. Xisuma stared at Grian, before shaking his head and speaking again. "Why didn't you then?"
"...I..." Grian tried. He knew they wouldn't react like Sam did... Why did he... "...I guess I got so used to hiding them because of the last person who knew..."
Scar stopped stroking the feathers and pulled away, and Grian frowned at the loss of the calming sensations. Before thinking, Grian's wings moved back into Scar's hands. Laughter erupted from everyone as they witnessed it.
"Eh, I can't complain. They feel like silk!" Scar said, slightly laughing.
"They do?" Tango asked. "Can I-"
Before thinking again, Grian shoved his other wing to the demon hybrid. Tango laughed and began petting the wing. Scar was right, the feathers were so soft and almost perfect! Tango chuckled in suprise when he heard the coo escape Grian's mouth, and Grian pull his wings back to him. His tail wrapped around his leg as he hid his face in his hands.
"Hey, it's fine." Impulse said. "It just shows how much you trust us."
Grian peeked out, and then hid his face again. Then hesitantly his wings spread out, and back into Scar and Tango's touch. This time however, Impulse and Zedaph joined in.
The coos and chirps escaped his mouth easily, as he allowed himself to fall to the calming sensations.
He could deal with the aftermath later, he just wanted his friends to continue lulling him to sleep.
