Mumbo knew going out into the water was dangerous, as many dangerous creatures swam in these oceans. But there was suddenly like, 500 more sea pickles in the water. He wanted to know why.

He stepped onto the small boat and sat down. All he needed to do was row towards the sea pickles and look for clues. He began rowing, instantly being put on edge by the rock of the boat and the lack of fish.

"Mayeb I should head back...?" Mumbo suggested to himself, looking back at his island. He usually flew on his elytra to the shopping district, so he had no need for boats since he got them. While thinking it through, he didn't notice the tide washing him further and further away from his island.

That was until he looked down and didn't see the sea pickles. Looking back at his island, he saw that it was further away then he wanted.

In his haste to get back to his island, his hands slipped and the paddle fell underneath the water. The other one just about fell, so he leaned over t ok grab it. Causing the boat to begin to tip. It stablized however, and he was able to grab the only paddle left.

He could've sworn he saw something yellow and red, but when he looked, it was gone. The glimmer of something in the water caught his eye however. It was a giant fish tail that was almost ruby red, but had a few blue scales.

He looked over to see the head of the fish, only to see what looked like a human face. He heard the giggled as the face darted back under the water. The water was clear enough he could still see it however.

The creature swam far enough away that Mumbo could see it completely. The creature had a human upper body that shifted to fish like scales near the hips. The brilliant red scaled tail shimmered in the sunlight, the few blue scales being near its fin. The fin itself had blue webbed like pattern that as striped with gold. Looking back up at the creature, the dark gold hair slightly covered the creatures face. A mischievous grin matched the passion in the dark blue eyes perfectly. Gills were extended from in front of the amphibian ears down to just above the jawline.

"Wait- is that a mermaid or a siren...?" Mumbo asked himself.

The blonde poked its head through the surface of the water. Before water hit the back of the ravenette's shirt. Turning around quickly, he saw the red tail wave before darting back underneath the surface. He turned to look at the blonde, and saw he was darting down near the surface of the seafloor.

A large scar on the creature's back resembled what seemed to be a large burn, but he couldn't see it very well.

He rowed back towards his island without much luck, until the other paddle was dropped into the boat and he turned to see the creature had a quizzical look in its eyes. His hand slipped out of the water, and he pointed at the paddle. The fingers were slightly webbed, reminding Mumbo that this wasn't a human.

Mumbo nodded and began rowing with it, the creature swimming beside him watching the boat. He kept his back turned away from Mumbo, or he would've looked at it. As he reached the shore, the creature waved to him before swimming off and down into the sea.

"...what in the world...?"

...

Grian swam down into the abandoned ship wreck his tail almost knocking over a bottle with a letter in it on his shelf.

He stretched his arms as he held the bottle. He had finally met a human! Perhaps it could read this message to him? Or... whatever was on the letter?

...

Mumbo made weekly trips out to the water where he saw the creature a few more times. The creature began waiting for Mumbo, making him think that the creature might just be luring him to his doom. Everytime he saw the merman's face, it was like the fear was washed away with the tide.

Eventually the creature rested its head against the boat's edge, smiling at the human.

"...Well here goes nothing-" Mumbo started.

"Human's speak English!?" The merman asked, the curiosity in his eyes becoming tenfold.

"I didn't even know you could speak." Mumbo said.

"Well of course in can speak! I'm not a fish!" The creature frowned and puffed up his cheeks in annoyance. Mumbo couldn't help but laugh at the creatures poor attempts at pretending to be annoyed.

"Oh- Stop laughing!" The creature's head slid under the water slightly, hoping the water would mask the smile.

"I'm sorry- it's just. I never expected any sea creature to act like a human."

"Well I never expected humans to be so afraid of water." He said. "What happened to the days where you guys would sail off on giant boats and fight eachother!"

"Well... We found out about the monsters in the water. Theres plenty of things that want to kill us down there, after all."

Silence engulfed the pair, only being broken by the Blonde's tail splashing water onto Mumbo's back.

"Oh come on!" Mumbo whined, smiling.

"Well I'm Grian!" Grian said, extending his handout. Mumbo took it and shook it.

"I'm Mumbo."

Grian took that moment to smirk and pull the human under the water. Grian held Mumbo's arms, and his face was extremely close to Mumbo's underneath the water.

Grian swam down to the bottom of the sea, dragging Mumbo down with him. Grian swam into a small underwater cave, allowing Mumbo to breath in air once again. Grian pulled himself out of the water, to sit on where his butt would be if he was a human.

"Why am I here...?" The ravenette asked, taking off his tie to ring it.

Some splashing behind him caused him to turn. There were two other mermen staring blankly at Grian and him.

"I told you I found a human!" Grian said happily.

"Grian!" Both yelled.

Now that Mumbo thought about it, there was glowing moss all over the cave, including the even brighter moss in the small underwater lake.

The first one was buff, and if he was human, Mumbo had no doubt he could rival Doc. He had brown hair with a brown beard. His right eye was green, with his left being blue. His tail was green and blue, shimmering in the glow of the moss.

The second one was covered in scars, causing him to become worried. He had a brown tail, with some red scales dotted here and there near his fin. He had brown hair and scars on his face. He was afraid, and hid behind the first one. Actually, compared to the first one, his tail was slightly longer. He looked over at Grian's, to see it was much shorter then his scarred counterpart.

"...Why am I here?" Mumbo wondered aloud.

"Your here, because Grian is an idiot-" "Hey!" "- and doesn't think your a threat." The first one said, the accent throwing him off slightly.

Was this one... swedish???

"Knock him out and drop him off at whatever sore island he came from." The first one said, Grian slid back into the water, and some bubbles came up, showing his mumbles of displeasure. Grian pulled Mumbo into the water, and swam out of the cave.

It didn't take long for Grian to leave Mumbo on his Island, the blonde obviously quite sad.

He swam back towards the ravine, and Mumbo caught himself wondering if he'd see him again.
