Grian is preening his wings when Mumbo asks to help. It just devolves from there.

AU where touching wings only makes them protective of you, and calm them down.

Requested: No.

~

A blonde figure with red and yellow wings sat on the first floor of his base.

He was preening his wings.

Sure it wasn't exactly private, but it was far better than doing it in the infinity room again.

Most of the Hermits knew about his wings, though they were really sensitive so Grian just used an elytra.

Though he didn't mind showing his wings to anyone who asked.

The one time that people saw someone touch Grian's wings was a Baby Piglin.

Grian basically instantly calmed and looked really tired.

When the Piglin kid left, Grian was embarrassed to say the least.

He may or may not of threatened Doc, Scar, BDubs, and Xisuma to secrecy. Though it didn't work.

Grian hummed as he preened his right wing.

It already felt a lot better, and he had a fourth of the way to go for the one wing.

Grian was thankful all the debris and dirt specks were getting out from under his feathers.

He heard some rockets and he looked at the entrance closest to the shopping district, confused.

Soon enough Mumbo landed near him.

Though Mumbo tripped a few times before becoming steady again.

"Hello!" Mumbo said, sitting across from Grian.

"Hi Mumbo." Grian returned, smiling.

Mumbo looked confused as he watched Grian continue preening his feathers.

"...Can I help?" Mumbo asked, staring at the feathers.

Grian seemed hesitant but allowed it.

Most Avians or Elytrians would be more skeptical of someone who wants to help preen their wings, but Grian knew Mumbo.

Mumbo was kind and sweet.

Grian moved to be sitting right yo the left of Mumbo, and brought his wing slightly in between them.

He grabbed Mumbo's hand and directed them to help clean his wings.

He felt calm and happy as the preening began again.

He soon let go of Mumbo's hand, and allowed the man to do it himself.

It felt much more loving and careful than when his father taught him to preen his wings.

Grian closed his eyes and his right wing folded so it was against his back.

Grian soon found himself slipping.

Though it was embarrassing, Mumbo was his best friend.

Mumbo stopped slightly when he heard the chirp.

He was confused.

Then it came back when he started preening the wing's feathers again.

He smiled as he saw the face of calmness across his best friends face.

Quiet chirps were being made by his best friend, and Grian was trusting Mumbo enough to close his eyes as Mumbo preened his wings.

Mumbo smiled and began working again.

Eventually, Grian still looked a bit out of it, but he was at least more aware of everything around him.

Then Mumbo found himself in a predicament.

When he tried to leave, Grian tackled him to the ground and didn't let go.

Mumbo was really confused.

...

When Xisuma found Grian and Mumbo the next day, he was trying not to wake up the two.

Grian's wings were wrapped around Mumbo as much as they could've, and the two were sleeping against eachother.

X smiled, and wrote a note for Mumbo.

God Mumbo had no idea what he'd done by being the person who caused a winged person to slip onto bird brain.

Grian had only explained to slightly when he joined Hermitcraft, but he knew that it was basically a secondary personality that was way more protective, and more affectionate.

...

Iskall was the third person on Hermitcraft to find put about bird brain.

Grian was half asleep, watching Mumbo do some Redstone.

Iskall decided to prank Mumbo, by leading some chickens to the area he was working on redstone. (Is Iskall Poultry Man??? :O )

Grian accidentally chirped when Mumbo was trying to chase the birds away.

Grian just left without an explanation, and Mumbo tried to relay information to Iskall.

...

Grian held his head in his hands as Stress, Doc, Tango, and Scar stared in shock.

Mumbo was just laughing.

Iskall however was trying not to laugh.

He had accidentally chirped when a skeleton shot an arrow at Mumbo.

Iskall killed the skeleton, but that didn't stop the embarrassment that was written all over Grian's face. If you could see it that is, he was trying to hide in his hands.

"...Mumbo activated your bird brain?" Scar asked, eventually.

Grian, Mumbo, and Iskall stared in confusion.

"Bird brain happens in most winged folk. I used to have another winged friend." Scar explained loosely.

A few seconds passed. Before Grian spoke.

"...Yeah... Honestly it's really embarrassing..." Grian said, nervousness lacing his tone.

Scar looked more confused than anything.

"But it's basically what us humans do when we make certain sounds or gestures. It allows people to understand what your feeling more?" Scar said, a unsaid question in what he said.

"Yeah. My dad was an Avian, and my mom was human. My dad was raised by his adoptive parents who were humans." Grian explained, answering Scar's unsaid question. "Up until I was 15 I never met another winged person, other than family."

"That actually explains a lot, including the fact you couldn't fly for shit at the beginning of your time on hermitcraft." Doc said.

Grian nodded smiling softly.
