Mort Rainey 3 part 2.

A/n I might consider doing a part 3. If I can think up one that is.

For the next few weeks me and Mort spent every day going threw all the police files I had and comparing the information to what Mort knows. I am surprised to learn that Mort remembers so much,but something like this you probably wouldn't forget in a hurry. One month after we began my idea,we got a very interesting piece of information from a source of mine.

I had just finished the phone call to my source when I arrived at Mort's. As soon as I walked up to the door Mort opened the door and said
"I hate that neighbor of yours"
"What did Hattie do now?" I ask following Mort inside and closing the door
"That gossiping old hag has started to talk about us,saying we are conducting a illicit affair" Mort says as we head to the living room.

"That is typical of Hattie" I say,we sit down on the sofa. Mort has the curtains closed to stop Hattie looking in
"So did you get any information back from your source?" Mort asks
"Yes actually, my source tells me that your dead ex wife Amy was in fact friends with your stalker John Shooter" I tell him
"What?" Mort says shocked" I didn't know that"

"From what I have been told,the two of them kept in contact after being in school together" I say
"But why would Shooter kill her?" Mort asks
"Well if Shooter and Amy where in this together to try and say you stole Shooters work,but because of the article you had proved you to be right,Shooter could have gotten out of hand and began to kill people so people would think you are a killer" I explained.

"Wow Y/n you really have put a lot of thought into this" Mort says
"Its why I became a P.I,I like working alone"
"Do you think we have enough information to get my case looked at again but properly?" Mort asks me
"I'd say we are quiet close,I think I just need to check some witness statement's of the people that died and then we should be good to go" I say
"How long will that take?" Mort asks
"About a day or so,it just depends on the police co operation"

Time skip

It actually took longer than I had hoped,the police back at Tashmore lake where very reluctant to let me have the statements. And after four days of trying I decided to go over there heads and on the fifth day I got what I wanted. With the witness statement's I am now one step closer to proving Mort to be innocent.

Back home Mort and I both carefully went threw each and every statement that is here and compared all the stories to each other
"Nothing is standing out to me" Mort admits,putting down the statement he is holding.
"I think I have something" I say" It seems to me that all the statements from the ongoing case seem to prove you right. The statements say that John Shooter was around. But after Amy was killed and they locked you up,it looks to me like the sheriff went back to the people that where still alive and forced them to change there statements,to say they never saw Shooter"

"So you are saying the Sheriff was in on this as well?" Mort asks annoyed
"Maybe or Shooter threatened him" I say
"Let's just hope they will believe us this time."
