Chapter 26: Hospital Part 3

El's pov

After Billy and I talked and cried in the bathroom we went back in. "hey.. Are you okay?" max's mom asked as hopper was talking on the phone. We nodded and sat down.

"The doctor said we can see max" max's mom said with a smile. She hasn't woke up yet. But at least I can now sit next to her until she wakes up in her hospital room and not outside.

We walk in. I see max on the bed. I sit down next to her. Seeing her unconscious breaks my heart. "She's going to be fine, it just needs some time" the doctor said.

I nodded my head, hoping what he just said is true. I grabbed her hand. "I'm here max.. I'll always be here" I whispered. I felt tears im my eyes again. I've been crying silent holding her hand by myself.

"Hey el.. I think it's time you get some sleep, it's pretty late" Billy tiredly said. I slowly nodded. Max's mom sat on another chair, so did Billy. I tried to fall asleep on the chair next to mad still holding her hand, like a miracle would happen or something.

I couldn't sleep. I kept waking up and going back to sleep. I kept waking up to check if she woke up. She wasn't. I was trying to convince myself that she will be okay but I couldn't.

*the next morning*

I woke up by myself once again. It was 7 am this time. I couldn't get back to sleep no matter what so I stopped trying. I just sat there staring at max. What do I do if she doesn't wake up? I can't live without her.

An hour later of doing nothing but admiring max's features. I tried to get the bad thoughts off my head by thinking about max. Her beautiful features. Her amazing hair, ocean blue eyes, her smile... everything.. she makes me so happy.

Suddenly someone got in. I flinched a little. It was hopper. He said he would come visit before going to work. He can't skip work so he unfortunately can't stay all day with us. Max's mom said it was okay since we were here.

"hey kid.. why are you awake?" hopper whispered. "I couldn't sleep" I answered. Max's mom woke up. "oh..hey chief" max's mom said. "good morning sorry for waking you up.. And call me hopper or Jim" hopper said. Max's mom nodded.

"it's okay" she said. "I brought food before going to work" hopper said. "you didn't have to.. We can buy from the cantine" she said.
"it's alright" hopper said.

Hopper walked to me and kissed my forehead. "are you feeling better?" he softly asked. I shook my head. How could I be okay. He slowly nodded sadly. What would he say anyway. I don't blame him.

"I just called the school, I told them what happened. I also told them they you'll be missing school for a little since you asked but it's okay if you want to go I'll inform you if max-" hopper said but I cut him off.

"no, no way I'm leaving her" I said. I sounded a bit mean I think. He nodded. "alright I have to go.." he said. He opened his arm got me to hug him. I stood up and hugged him. He then left.

He brought me clothes from home. I decided to wear a hoodie max gave me. The purple one. She knows I love purple so she told me to keep it. It smells just like her.

"Here" max's mom said passing me the food for us to eat. "I'm not hungry, thank you though" I softly said. She nodded. I feel bad for not accepting their food but I just can't eat. I don't know why. Maybe because I'm too worried. I don't know.

"aren't you going to eat?" I asked her when I noticed her leaving the food on the table. "I'm not so hungry either" she said smiling gently. I smiled back.

After a few minutes max's mom grabbed a magazine. I could the pain on her face as well. Billy was still sleeping.

Susan's pov

I was reading a magazine hoping it would get me distracted. But it wouldn't help much. After about 10 minutes I looked over at el. She was holding max's hand silently crying. Seeing her in pain hurt me as well. I know how much she cares about her. I'm so grateful for el.

She made max so happy and I couldn't thank her enough for that. I slowly got up trying not to wake up Billy. I didn't want to wake him up because he was struggling to fall asleep for a long time as well. I think none of us could sleep last night.

I sat down on another chair next to her. She looked at me and wiped her tears away. I looked at her sadly. I opened my arms motioning her to hug me. She slowly hugged me. She hugged me tight. It felt like she needed it.

We both did. I could hear her sobbing quietly. I couldn't help but let tears out as well. We just sat there hugging each other trying to comfort each other.

"hey.." we heard Billy saying. We pulled away. "hey.." we both tiredly said. "Are you okay?" he asked. We nodded.

El's pov

Billy bad woken up as well. We pulled away from the hug. Billy looked tired. We all were. "how did you sleep" I asked. "Not so good to he honest, what about you" he admitted. "Me either" we both said.

*later*

I think the school was over since Dustin came. He was the first one to show up. He soflty knocked on the door. He frooze when he saw max. Still unconscious. I could see the disappointment on his face and sadness.

He was holding a bag. "I brought you eggos and chocolate" he said with a smile. His smile could light up my mood a little. "thank you.." I said returning the smile.

He sat down next to me. "are you feeling better?" he soflty asked. I shrugged. I don't even know anymore. He looked away. "I'm sure she's going to be fine" he said. I nodded. I was tired of that sentence. How do they know. I know it's just to comfort me but still.

"Do you know what exactly happened?" I asked. "about what happened?" he asked as I nodded. "I know Neil caught you and max.. kissing" he said. I began to look worried. I was always scared of out friends reaction to me liking girls. I trust Dustin with my heart but its still really.. really scary.

"I'm totally okay with it el.. I like girls too! We're even" he said with a smile. I couldn't help but laugh a little. He always knows how to make me smile. "I guess so" I said.

He pulled me into a hug.
"When she wakes up, we should go on a double date! You and max, Suzie and I!" Dustin said. "you really think she'll wake up?" I asked. "of course, I hope so. Max is strong, I'm sure she will" he said. I smiled. "I really hope so too" I said. He took my hand.

I smiled softly at him. Dustin is the best. He's always sweet and funny. Even though he's stupid and annoying sometimes he always makes us laugh and smile.

I was still holding max's hand. I didn't let it go. I was holding Dustin's with my other hand. "eggos?" he asked smiling. I nodded. How could I say no. I thought its best I eat a little.

I appreciate him a lot. We started eating together. Max's mom came back. She went to the cafeteria to get water. Billy was still in the room reading a book.
