Partners Within The Disaster ~ Chapter 23

"Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, everywhere you go, it's just dead corpses everywhere..." Tails groaned. He looked at his surroundings and found himself stepping in blood. "This is honestly so disgusting and disturbing."

"We have no other choice but to deal with it, if we don't deal with it we are unable to progress forward with our ideals... especially since Mayor Luigi is under distress and wants us to find the heroes as soon as possible," Azura replied. Tails nodded and they continued walking down the street. The eerie silence of the streets left them unsettled.

Tails muttered, "There doesn't seem to be anyone on the streets... maybe we can get to the heroes..." Azura looked around the area trying to search for the heroes. However, she was unable to find any source of where they were.

"Maybe they'll find us, there's not much life surrounding here so there's a possibility they can find us easily," Azura questioned. Tails looked around the area and then noticed some strange figures in the distance.

Tails asked, "Hang on... what is that?" Azura took out her lance and looked in the far distance. It was a horde of people fighting each other but they didn't appear to be approaching Tails and Azura. They stood there watching the crowd constantly attack one another.

"Gods, I want to find the heroes and get out of here as soon as possible! I cannot deal with such a situation like this! This is going to be a massive toll on my mental health!" Azura said with panic. Tails continued watching the crowd and then saw they had all stopped fighting.

"Oh... gods,"

"TAILS?! WHAT'S GOING ON-"

"Azura! Stay quiet! Don't make them notice you!" Azura stared at Tails and then back at the crowd. They appeared to be searching the area for something but it was hard to tell what they were looking for. Tails and Azura proceeded to slowly move in the opposite direction.

Azura muttered, "Maybe if we slowly walk in the wrong direction... they won't pay attention to us..." Tails looked over and saw the crowd still searching. Eventually they picked up speed and proceeded to run.

"Where are the heroes?! It's like they're nowhere to be found for some reason!? They just vanished without any notice?! Where are they?!" Tails questioned. They looked around the streets and soon heard rumbling.

Azura asked, "What... was that?" They looked behind them and saw the crowd was... gone. However, the rumbling continued to get louder and louder by the second.

Tails suggested, "Maybe we just keep walking so we don't get caught in the disaster that's happening. Come on!" Azura nodded and they continued walking down the path. They kept on walking slowly down the streets and then finally reached a point where the rumbling only got louder.

"No... No... just leave us alone..."

"Azura you need to focus on yourself, complaining over and over again will not get you anywhere..."

"I'm trying Tails! There's just so much rumbling going on that I have to panic about this! This could very well be a serious situation and we have no way to tell what's going on!" Then they paused. There was more rumbling, they looked around the area and saw... nothing.

There wasn't anyone near them besides dead corpses. However, there were still huge amounts of rumbling. They grabbed tight on each other and continued investigating the entire area.

"Forget this I'm going back to the office and finding the Mayor," Azura complained. She dashed off and Tails quickly followed her.

Tails said, "Azura please don't go! We have to be on the lookout for the heroes! We can't get up yet!" Azura didn't listen to him but soon Tails caught up to her and grabbed her. "Azura can't you listen to me for a moment? I get the scene around here is unsettling and you don't like it but please just listen!"

Azura muttered, "If you say so... this will not change my opinion on how we should go to Luigi and explain to him that the heroes are nowhere to be found. I want to find the heroes too but since we can't find them we have to tell him they're... just gone!"

"I know the heroes are out there somewhere! They just have to be somewhere! I get the situation is dire and we need to find them fast but we can't give up yet! Jade and Ruby are unable to provide support as they're trying to shut down anything that's causing problems. But we cannot give up now!" Tails explained. Azura looked at him and then looked up from where she was staring.

Azura muttered, "Maybe you have a point..." They started to look around when... "AGH!!! THERE'S PEOPLE OVER THERE!" Tails looked over and saw a group of despair induced people surrounding them.

Tails asked, "Wh-What the?! Were we ambushed all so suddenly!?" They looked around the area and the people were ready to tackle them. They jumped out and then looked around. "We only have ourselves and our weapons! We have to fight through this!"

Azura said with panic, "How are we going to deal with so many despair induced people at once?! There's so much we're not going to push through this!" That's when they noticed a group of help appearing in the distance. Soon the despair induced people spreaded out in order to stop them from interrupting their plans.

"Gods, they were ambushed! We have to help them in some form!" Byleth shouted. The other heroes nodded and took out their weapons. Soon enough Azura and Tails took out their weapons.

Byleth ordered, "We have to take down the twenty despair induced souls one by one. I don't care if you guys kill them or not, we have to make sure Azura and Tails come out of this alive."

"Right so each of us should be able to handle one of them right?" Eula questioned. Byleth nodded and the heroes all took a few deep breaths.

"Perhaps... This is a perfect opportunity to guide Byleth correctly and make use of your guidance. Perhaps it's time for his abilities to be finally shown off..." Time whispered to Chrom. Chrom turned over toward Byleth and then back at his blade. He slowly nodded and the group got ready to fight.
