Lucina cheered, "DADDY THERE YOU ARE!! I'm so happy to see you again!" Chrom smiled down at Lucina as Byleth walked over. Byleth searched the area but noticed there was only Lissa there. Not a sign of Claude.
Byleth questioned, "Where's Claude?"
"He's out doing his job as usual," Lissa replied as she walked over with Morgan. Morgan got down on the ground and went over to hug Byleth. Byleth picked him up and looked up at her.
Byleth asked, "Since when?"
"Since a week ago, he has been really busy as of late," Lissa replied. Chrom and Lucina were playing with one another. Both of them were enjoying their time with one another.
Byleth sighed, "I see... How's Owain?"
"Owain has gone out training with Lon'qu, Lon'qu is always like that," Lissa replied with a giggle. Byleth giggled alongside her and then remembered something else.
Byleth asked, "I haven't heard of Chase in a while. How's he and Sumia?"
"Chase is somewhere in Vivin City alongside Sumia but I haven't seen them in a while," Lissa replied. Byleth nodded as he watched Chrom play with Lucina. He had no idea how to feel or what to say. It was strange to see them enjoy themselves so much. Chrom was just happy to be with his family, it was his only getaway.
Byleth muttered, "Chrom a few moments ago was wanting so badly to kill Magnus... Now here he is playing with Lucina like nothing happened at all." Lissa looked over towards Chrom and saw him lifting Lucina up into the air.
Lucina cheered, "I love you so much daddy! I hope we can have more happy moments!" Chrom smiled at her as he gave Lucina a hug. Lucina hugged him back but rather tightly. Chrom kept his joyful attitude with Lucina as this was the only time he was able to.
"I love you too Lucina, never forget how much your father loves you," Chrom laughed. Lucina nodded as she continued hugging Chrom tightly. Byleth took a long deep breath and looked toward Lissa.
Byleth sighed, "Morgan is very interested in me so he likes when I keep him company I suppose. But that doesn't bother me that much, he's such an angel." Morgan stared at Byleth and giggled. "I just... I wish I was quicker to make a move on Chrom. You know of the crush I have on him, hm?"
Lissa replied, "Funny thing Morgan was the one who brought it up to me." Byleth's face turned red and he was blushing from embarrassment. "Don't worry! I promise not to mention it to anyone! But yes I do know of your crush on Chrom. I think it's best if you let the lovebirds be."
Byleth asked, "You really believe that Chrom wouldn't have liked me even if I made a move on him earlier than Claude?" Lissa shrugged her shoulders as Byleth placed Morgan on the ground. He took a deep breath and tightened his gloves. "I'm going to head off now, I just wanna see what's going around here."
"Take care of yourself Byleth!" Lissa replied while waving. Byleth nodded and walked off. Chrom came walking by as Morgan walked over to him to jump into his hands. Byleth looked back at Chrom for a moment before walking off.
He looked around the entire city and it appeared to be in order. There wasn't too much going on besides people enjoying themselves left and right. He felt himself feeling different as he didn't seem to be enjoying himself as much as everyone else. Maybe it was his stress getting to him, that was the only thing he could think of.
Byleth sighed, "If only we had a chance to discover more about The World Tree. How on Dawn did Magnus get so strong he can summon the world tree on his own?" Byleth sat down on the ground and took a huge deep breath. He was unsure of what to do, or what to say. He looked around once more before looking at the tree.
Then he buried his head into his knees, all he could think was the happy faces of the citizens. All of them filling up with joy and memories, yet he wasn't feeling the same way... Byleth didn't know how to think about all of them. He felt jealous they were in love with someone, and he wasn't...
Byleth sighed, "I never realized until now how much Shez means to me. He's the only death besides my father's where I began to cry. Maybe... I don't know..." Byleth looked down at his palms and looked outside the gate. There was rain pouring down from that side but there was no rain in the city.
Byleth placed his head against the wall and decided to let his emotions get the best of him. He began to cry and let everything within his body escape. No reason to hide away the emotions forever. All he could do was cry and cry, nothing was going to bring them back. Nothing was going to make Chrom love him. Nothing at all.
"WHY!!! WHY?!!" Byleth screamed into his hands. He was in anger, outraged even. Why did it have to be them? Why? He continued to cry as he thought about all the allies they lost. Shez, Albedo, Ayato, Hajime... they were all dead. There was nothing they could do
He felt himself finally calming down but he couldn't stop thinking about everything that had happened. The situation was getting worse and worse, not much they could do now. They just had to pray and fight through it all, victory had to be near... right?
