Safe and Sound As The Wind ~ Chapter 56

"Hang on tight Chrom, it's going to be alright,"

"Are you positive he's still there?!"

"He has a pulse which means he's alive. I just pray it isn't too late..." Chrom slowly opened his eyes to see Marianne and Link staring down at him. "You're awake! Thank goodness!"

Chrom asked, "H... How did you know where I was?"

"We assumed you followed Ruby and Jade, so we sent out a search party. Alear and Byleth found you unconscious on the ground in the home Ruby and Jade died in. You had a ton of blood around your foot and we took you safely back home," Link explained. Chrom looked at them and lifted himself up.

Chrom replied, "I... I appreciate your help, everyone. It means... a lot to me. I thought I was done for."

"What even happened? Did you fight Ruby and Jade?"

"I... I fought Raiden Shogun, she stabbed me in the foot while we were fighting. However, I won the fight... at the cost of whatever happened afterwards," Chrom explained. The heroes looked at one another.

Marianne sighed, "I heard your family wants to check on you after hearing about what happened. I'll let them in." Chrom nodded as the heroes walked out of the room. Marianne invited Chrom's family inside one by one.

"You're okay, thank goodness..." Claude replied as he walked up to Chrom. Chrom looked at him and smiled at him. Lucina and Morgan looked up at him.

Lucina sighed, "I got very worried about how you were feeling. So I decided to make you a present, dad! Claude helped me make it." Chrom grabbed the present from Lucina's hand and opened the box.

From inside there was a sun charm and a moon charm. He took them out and looked at them with confusion. Not sure how to feel or what they resembled. Also inside the box there was a heart cushion that appeared to be designed by Lucina.

"Lucina made the heart cushion and I made the sun and moon charms, they're supposed to be part of necklaces, I have my halves of each one too, see?" Claude explained as he showcased the necklace to Chrom. Chrom looked at the necklace and smiled.

Chrom asked, "You really did this all for me did you?" The children nodded as Chrom hugged them each. He noticed there was a bandage on his foot but that didn't bother him. "I... I love you all dearly so much. I never knew how much I needed something like this."

Claude sighed, "We knew you were going to deal with a lot but I just couldn't resist making you more presents."

"Claude this sounds like you're implying something, are you saying you're making these as memories of our time through this all, or are you just making these for fun?" Chrom asked while giggling.

Claude sighed, "Well... you're not wrong on either but you're not correct either. You see..." Chrom looked at him and suddenly his facial expression turned from happy to serious. "My reasoning is actually a lot darker. You see... I'm making these incase something happens to me."

Chrom replied, "Claude nothing is going to happen to you. You're safe here in Vivin City. Luigi is living here as the mayor and is doing all he can. You're going to be fine."

"Chrom that isn't the case at all,"

"What are you getting at?!"

"What I mean... I..." Claude hesitated for a moment and then looked at Chrom. Then he took out a paper and showed it to Chrom. "I was hired to do some searching outside of Vivin City, which requires me to be out in the danger."

Chrom asked, "You... were hired?! You..."

"I got hired last week, I've been doing shifts as of late and only now did I get a chance to see you and explain this to you. I wanted to explain this to you earlier but I got insanely busy," Claude explained.

Chrom muttered, "I... I don't know what to say. You've been doing all of this all this time? Last week you were hired and now you're out in the danger? What about the kids?"

"They're safe with Lissa, don't worry Chrom. I'm not planning to abandon anyone, I know what I'm doing and I know what I'm not doing, for the love of god Chrom just be careful,"

"Careful!? If anyone, you're the one who needs to be careful!"

"I am!"

"NOT WHILE YOU'RE DOING THAT!" Chrom shouted. He got off the bed and walked toward the door. "I'm sorry for yelling, my stress levels are getting worse but... please... just be careful."

Claude replied while walking to Chrom, "I promise I will. You have my word for it. I won't get into any trouble." Chrom looked at him and smiled. Then the two slowly kissed on the mouth. The children all gagged in disgust but giggled afterwards.
