Andrew comes home late thinking his daughter will be asleep... she is, she's just not alone

I slowly unlocked the door to my apartment, shutting it gently behind me.
I tiptoed around the house and took my shoes off before setting them down on the floor; today filming had been prolonged for a while and it was currently past 2 am.
I had texted Lynn back at 8 pm to tell her to have dinner and not to wait up for me.
On late days from set like this one, my daughter would usually fall asleep on the couch, trying to wait up for me despite my warnings and then collapsing from tiredness.
When I noticed the couch was empty I went into the kitchen and grabbed a glass of cold water for the night; I then walked up the stairs and went into my bedroom, setting the glass on my beside table and grabbing a t-shirt and some clean boxers to sleep in after my shower.
Before going to the bathroom I stopped in front of my daughter's door; it was slightly open, only a dim light coming from inside.
I slowly pushed the door opens, expecting to have to shut the lights off; most night Lynn would fall asleep while reading, and her beside lamp would remain on until I'd turn it off before going to bed myself.
As I expected, the lamp was indeed on, but Lynn was not alone in her bed; another girl, one I knew to be named Erika, was laying down beside her, my daughter settled comfortably in her arms as the two slept soundly.
I chuckled and turned the lamp off, shutting the door softly behind me as I moved towards the bathroom.
I turned the taps of the shower on and discarded of my clothes before hopping in; as I felt the hot water wash over me, relaxing my tense shoulders and back, I thought about Lynn and Erika.
While Lynn had never openly came out I had always suspected her interest was more directed towards girls rather than boys, but I never questioned her about it, not wanting to pressure her or to make her feel uncomfortable.
When she had introduced me to her "friend" Erika I couldn't help but notice the sparkle on my daughter's eyes whenever their gazes would meet.
I chuckled once more and turned the water off, exiting the shower and wrapping a towel around my waist, using another one to dry my hair.
I brushed my teeth and washed my face before applying some of my Weeleda face cream; once that was done I took of my towel and pulled on my clean black boxers, shrugging on my loose t-shirt as well.
As I was cleaning up the toothpaste mess in the sink the door opened slowly.
"Dad?" Lynn whispered, her voice thick with sleep.
I chuckled softly, "hey darling, everything ok?" I checked.
Lynn nodded, "yeah, I just wanted a glass of water but then I noticed the light coming from the bathroom," she shrugged.
I nodded and picked up the bar of soap, washing my hands to get rid of any left over face cream and toothpaste, "did you eat something for dinner?" I questioned as I shut the water, "I'm sorry I was so late, today was hectic," I apologized.
Lynn grinned at me, "don't worry about it, you know I don't mind, plus Erika came over to keep me company."
I laughed softly, "yeah, I noticed," I smiled warmly at her, "you girls binged watched Good Luck Charlie?" I questioned, already knowing the answer.
Lynn smiled timidly and nodded, "about Erika, dad I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, I didn't think she was gonna spend the night here."
I waved my hand in dismissal, "no need to apologize, you know I don't mind if you have people over," I assured her, "you're such an amazing kid, I never really had to worry about you doing something stupid," I chuckled, "I'm sorry darling, but the most rebellious thing you've ever done has been staying up late on a school night to finish reading a book," I laughed as she swatted my arm gently.
Lynn sighed, "the thing is—" she took a deep breath, "dad, Erika isn't just a friend," she confessed.
I smiled warmly at her, "I knew that already baby," I assured her, wrapping her up in a hug, "I mean, I wasn't sure, but I did have my suspicions," I clarified, "you know I don't care in the slightest about things like labels and sexuality, honey, as long as you're happy and safe that's all that matters to me."
Lynn smiled against the crook of my neck and tightened her hold on me, "thanks dad, you're the best," she whispered, "and don't worry, I'm extremely happy," she giggled.
I raised a brow and tickled her sides, "that's great baby, are you also being safe?" I made sure.
Lyn chuckled awkwardly, "well, we've never really... you know," she tailed off.
I nodded, "got it," I whispered, "just make sure to be ready for when the time comes, only if it comes obviously, you're not obligated to do anything."
Lynn smiled and kissed my shoulder, "thanks dad, you're the best," she mumbled sleepily, "I love you."
I rubbed her back gently and soothingly as she snuggled into my chest, "I love you too baby," I chuckled as she yawned in my t-shirt, "come on, let's get you back to bed, you're basically dead asleep on your feet."
She laughed and giggled as I lifted her up and set her down in front of her door, "go back to sleep," I whispered as I kissed her forehead gently, "I'll just go turn the light off in the bathroom and then I'll bring you a glass of water."
Lynn smiled and leaned up to press a sweet kiss to my cheek, "thanks dad, I love you," she whispered as she opened her door slowly, "night night," she waved.
I chuckled and blew her a kiss, "night baby, sleep well," I whispered, "have a good cuddle," I chuckled as she stuck her tongue out at me childishly before retreating into her bedroom and flopping down on the bed.
I moved back to the bathroom to turn the lights off before going into the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water for Lynn and moving back up the stairs.
As I opened her door I saw her already fast asleep, being the little spoon in her cuddle with her girlfriend; I smiled and set the glass on her beside table, before leaning down and pressing one last kiss to her forehead, "night baby, daddy loves you," I whispered.
"Night daddy," she mumbled, waking up only very slightly, "love you too," she slurred out before knocking out again.
I chuckled and exited the room, closing the door softly behind me.
God, I loved my daughter.
