December soon arrived, and Cordelia was nearing the end of her internship. Things seemed to be going great, but she had noticed that Fred had started to act quite strange as it got closer to Christmas. He was more distant than usual, and he seemed to be nervous about something. Whenever she would ask him if he was alright, he would either shrug it off or become irritated.

One particular morning was especially rough on the couple, causing the young woman's anxiety to skyrocket. She went to his drawer to pull out a pair of socks to hand to him while he was getting dressed. She had done this a dozen times in the past because he once complained about picking out socks that matched his outfit. Instead of taking the socks on this particular morning; however, he sprinted to the drawer and slammed it closed.

"What the hell are you doing?" Fred asked, obviously irritated.

"I-I was just getting you a pair of socks," Cordelia said, feeling a little put out.

"Well don't," he said, raising his voice, as he opened the drawer and inspected its contents. "Just stay out of my stuff."

Cordelia raised her hands in defense. "Right, sorry. I'll stay out of your stuff," she said wearily as she backed out of the room to prepare breakfast.

"Shit," Fred mumbled once he was alone, rubbing his face with his hands.

The twins ate in silence while Cordelia picked at her food. She couldn't help but feel that something is going on with Fred. He seemed more anxious lately and it seemed as though he was hiding something. Of course, Cordelia's anxious mind went straight to the worst-case scenarios. She wondered if he was up to something illegal, or if he planned on breaking up with her.

"What's up with you two this morning?" George asked with a quirked eyebrow, sensing the tension in the room.

"Nothing," Fred replied quickly, continuing to eat his food.

"Everything is fine," said Cordelia with a sigh. She stood from the table and placed her leftover food in a container before placing it in the fridge. "I gotta go to work now."

Fred puckered his lips for their usual goodbye kiss, only to feel nothing on his lips. He opened his eyes and saw Cordelia walking to the fireplace.

"I love you," he said as watched her grab some Floo Powder. Cordelia turned her head and glanced at him before she stepped into the fireplace.

"I love you, too," she muttered before disappearing in the Floo's green flame.

George gave Fred a look once Cordelia was gone. "Okay, spill."

"I messed up this morning," Fred sighed before he got up and headed downstairs, leaving George to clean up the breakfast on his own.
